Whatever input video signal you're using, PIP should be in color. What are you using out of your dvd for the second video input source, composite or component? Composite you should always have color, Component, if you have a bad red or blue, and just the green is working, you will get black and white. The green is the luminence signal.
You have one of several possible problems, ranging from best case scenario to worst case scenario:
A DVD video that is supposed to be black and white - try a different disc.
Some setting on the DVD player is set to monotone - check manufacturer's instructions
A bad set of cables connecting the dvd player to the tv - test a known good set of cables
A bad output on the DVD player - test DVD player with a different TV.
A bad input on the TV - try another input if possible, test TV with a known working video input.
It is possible that the MODE of TV SYSTEM was shifted possibily from PAL to NTSC and so the pciture can roll or be in black & white.
So open the menu and check the settings, look for TV system , colour system and change.
Hi, First try with yellow video output of DAV-S500 in yellow video TV input to get its picture. (yellow output means composite video out) Green-Blue-Red video output is component output that will be turn on when you switch the unit into Progressive picture mode, that option would be available in Menu of DAV-S500 Hope this info will help you. Thanks.
Check to be sure that the setup is correct. The picture you are describing is what happens when you play PAL into an NTSC unit. I don't think you are in PAL mode.
