I have a Samsung HL56A650 DLP TV. The Standby/Temp and the Timer lights are blinking. It will turn on and then shut off. When it comes on the picture is fine but it only stays on for a few seconds. There was also a small amount of smoke coming out if the back where the fan is right by the lamp. HELP?!!!

Check ballast supply board that drives lamp and is attached directly with lamp, ballast supply board can cause of this problem, would be cause of smoke while tv shows picture for moment.

Hello, I try to help. But your questions not spesific.
Below are conditions lamp indicators that appear blinking and solutions:
1. If Timer and Lamp blinking --> Auto timer on/off was been set, picture will appear ~ 25 second.
2. If Timer and Standby/Temp blinking --> A cooling fan inside the set is not operating properly.
3. If Lamp and Standby/Temp blinking --> The lamp cover on the rear of the set is not installed properly.
check the lamp if you havent changed it before that would be the easiest place to start. if the lamp is popped you will see glass pieces rolling around in the lamp.
The description sounds like a protection mode has been activated and the smoke obviously confirms this. Sounds like it will need to be inspected by a service technician and could get expensive
on dlp units there's a bulb that needs to be changed
avery 2-4 yrs..try and do that first..if that wont solve the problem..then try the color wheel if u here a humming noise before it shuts down.

The 3 lights on the tv are there to help you diagnose the problem. There should be Timer, Lamp, and Temp. If all 3 are blinking, the LED may be defective. If standby and temp are blinking, it's a problem w/the cooling fan. Let me know if that helps.
what i would do is crack into the tv and watch the individual parts being careful not to unplug anything while you take the back panel off.....turn it on and see what happens. let me know what happens
