This is usually something to do with network booting, see if your PC is trying to boot from some sort of network device, or network address, real or imaginary, It may also be a virus, trying to connect, somewhere, at boot up, so run a rootkit check too. Check all network settings and privacy settings too.
Here is a program that runs at boot time and tells you what is going on and how to speed up your boot time, it may help. copy/paste below. http://www.soft32.com/Download/Free/BootVis/4-19687-1.html

What would cause my aspire 5630 to shut down sporadically?

Shut down sporadically, caused by rising temperatures on the processor (processor overheat). Processor overheat, caused by damage to the processor fan. Processor fan function to reduce the processor temperature.

Possibilities and solutions
1. The possibility of sluggish processor fan. Processor fan spins, with a low speed, so it can not reduce the processor temperature.
Solution: clean the processor fan with a vacuum cleaner, or replace the processor fan.
2. The possibility of fan processor die.
Solution: replace the processor fan.

The characteristics of damage to the processor fan
After the laptop is turned off (more than 1 hour), the laptop can turn on and survive + - 30 minutes. In the period of + - 30 minutes, the laptop died suddenly, because the processor temperature exceeds safe limits (shut down temperature).

How to check
Laptop is turned off (more than 1 hour), then turn on. Download and install software to check the processor temperature. Ex. Real Temp 3.60. See the change in temperature. If the temperature continues to rise, it can certainly cause damage to the processor fan.
- Normal temperature, when first turned on + - 38oC
- Normal temperature, after turn on for hours 40oC - 45oC
- Temperature overheat processor, when first turned on 60oC - 65oC

Will not start

First try to reset the hardware using the following steps:

1 Disconnect the battery and the charger
2 Let it sit for 1-2 minutes.
3 Press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds.
4 Reconnect battery and charger, try to start by pressing the power button.

If it remains same, connect an external monitor to the VGA output of the system and then turn it on.

Let me know the results.

3 Press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds.

Also listen carefully for any beep sounds if you hear beep sound then the rams could be defective otherwise the mother board seems to be defective.

My Acer 6920 Battery is not being read properly- It says it will only last 1 hour when fully charged in power save mode. However 6months ago [when originally bought] it was being read as 1 1/2 hours. Not...

That is a known issue with that model of computer. The battery is not very good. I recommend taking it to a certified repair technician for an expanded battery.
My cousin has one and using windows 7 he gets about 20 to 30 minutes of battery life on average.

Brand New laptop, won't start

Try taking the battery out before you turn it on. Have seen completely a dead dead battery keeping a laptop from starting up. Does the hard drive activity light flickering? If it is you can try holding down the Function button (FN) and there should be another button to hit to switch between LCD\CRT.
