SOURCE: oven not turning on f31 code kenmore

may be a real simple , lets try this. unplugh the unit, and uscrew rear panel of the unit, there is a thermostat that may have tripped, very small maybe the size of a quarter, with 2 wires on it, easy to sppot because it will have a small red button atop of it, its resettable, so if it did "trip" melrey reset and your on your way, there are actuallly 2 of theese thermostats on your unit, and actually a more common one to trip would be the one in the control panal, so id prblaby check this one first, to acces it remov eht knobs, then wehere the knobs were are "large plastic lock washers" holding down the control panel, one around earch knob opening, after ermoving htem the control panel will lift up and lean over. i belive there are 4 screws to remove the clock(plenty of slack in wiring no worry)after thats out of the way, if you look down under behind the switch to right is the same resetable thermo(lok for the the red button) and with a small long screw dricer youll be able to reset it, this should cure you issue. sounds like a ton of directions but should take no maore than 20 min, to check em both

Possibly the temperature probe, check the connection and the wiring to it. These ovens have very badly stamped metal inside that will cut through wiring very easily. Temp probe may be bad as well.

Oven will not come on error message F31 appears

the oven needs two things 1, gas or electricity plus 2, thermocouple.
If gas try lighting manually by removing oven bottom plate of oven when possible. That puts everything out in the open. If it does not open that way go to the bottom broiler opening and light manually.
this will tell you where the problem is.

Electric oven, go to fuse box and shut off supply line them turn back o n. This is easiest fix and resets the stove. On electric stove there may be an interlock that shuts oven off when the door is open.
Hope this gets you started!!!

Hello Terri;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

I guess your must have rebooted your main control board like your would on your home computer.

All appliance that have a control board require a surge protector. You can purchase individual wall socked surge protector for about $20.00 USD. The slightest change in your power supply which changes depending on the time of day will disrupt or knock out your main control board.

You may also have rebooted other electrical components on the verge of failure.

If this happens again and the reboot does not work, inspect the control board for burn marks or melted connections. BEFORE YOU TOUCH THE CONTROL BOARD GROUND YOURSELF BY TOUCHING BARE METAL. STATIC ELECTRICITY WILL KNOCK OUT A CONTROL BOARD.

Keep in touch if this problem happens again. Provide me with a model number.

Formerly from Buffalo, NY, now Glen Burnie, Maryland. It is 29 degrees F. here now.

This KitchenAid combination wall oven and microwave unit was purchased in 2002. Except for having to replace a fuse in 2004, it worked fine until the microwave started acting up recently. In September...

Good Question. I work on all brands of appliances, and I swear by KitchenAid-Whirlpool appliances. That being said, I do not recommend oven-microwave combinations, because the ovens will last 30 to 40 years, but the microwaves start having major repairs from 6-10 years on. I would bite the bullet and put in a separate Panasonic microwave (with an inverter) and a seperate KitchenAid Oven. You also need to install a 2000 Joule or higher surge protector, for your microwave oven. Panasonic microwave ovens are better than the KitcheAid ovens at this time.
I would suspect that the touch panel-control board failure may have been caused by the repairman, just because the timing is a little too close to the mag repair. No way to tell you for sure, and I myself have had control board failures the same day that we changed a light bulb, so anything is possible. Usually a factory defect is going to show up before 8 years. In the last 4 years in the greater Seattle area, 70 - 80% of our business is from power surges hitting the electonics in the different appliances, so this could also have been what has caused your repairs. On a 240 volt Oven, the only way to protect it from power surges is to have a whole-house surge protector installed on your house electrical panel. You still need to have individual surge protectors, above 2000 joules, for your appliances that are 120 volts. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists

ERD30S- oven wont turn on

Hi! jpdufilho
Try tuning off the power to the unit for 20 minutes. If this does not fix the problem you may need a new control board/panel. If you have a lot of lightning in your area you should have several surge protectors in your house. All electronic devices need some type of surge suppression.

I believe the oven it has a power surge protector within the appliance. Try to unplug it and plug it back in. It should solve the problem.
