Using a gatewayM-1631U laptop, with windows 7 x 64 home premium edition. (See additional details below).
I use iTunes regularly, and as recently as Xmas 2009 was burning music CDs frequently on my laptop. Yesterday I attempted to burn a CD, and iTunes no longer recognizes the installed CD burner. I have not installed any programs to my computer recently, or made any other changes.
Today I began investigating the issue. I have tried (not in order) the following - and have not solved the issue:
1. Going to the registry editor and deleting the lower and upper filters associated with the H_KEY_LOCAL MACHINE/SYSTEM/CURRENT CONTROL SET/CONTROL/CLASS 4DE3695 ....
2. Uninstall and reinstall iTunes (9.0.2.25)
3. Repair iTunes 9.0.2.25
4. Looked for updates for the drivers (can't find any)
5. Downloading Gearsoft products
I admit that I have not tried Windows Media Player (because I'm committed to my iTunes - I sync with my ipod all the time and listen to it alot).
I also realize I may have made the problem worse by some of my attempted fixes.
Here is the information gathered through itunes diagnostics:

Anything else you need to help me figure this out?

This procedure is to be used as last resort. This is for software issues dealing with the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. This procedure is designed to fix issues after removing Roxio Easy CD Creator but it may help other issues also. This procedure can fix an issue but can also cause issues, so don't use it till last resort before doing a re-install.
