We have an old Dahl shredder 20091 which sits on top of a bin (like a garbage bin). We think it is broken beyond repair and would like to replace it. Do you know of a shredder that sits on top of the bin that would work the same way? I don't know if Dahl makes such a shredder anymore but I guess you would!!
Many thanks.

Thanks for replying - much appreciated. I would rather try and fix the old Dahl shredder than purchase a new Fellowes but we'll see how it goes. At present we are getting it fixed.

Go to www.fellowes.com and try using the shredder selector to find the best shredder for you. Great products and Unbelieveable customer service. I should know I am one of their CS Reps.

Does the motor run??? even in reverse???
If the motor doeas not run at all it probably PCB. If the motor does run but the cutting mechanism does not turn then you probably have stripped/broken plastic gears... open and check,...contact Royal at 1-800-524-0799 for parts assistance.
I have the same problem with a stripped gear, to remove the top i found it best to place the shredder on its back, then with a pozi screw driver there are 5 screws securing the top in place, these are inside the shredder above the paper bin, 1 in each corner and 1 in the centre.
Make sure that the shredder is locked down in its case by pushing down on all 4 corners.
Since the basket slides forward to empty it, I would think the safety switch is located in the front but not positive since I don't have a unit right in front of me.
Check to see if you see a slot in the top part of the shredder unit. Usually the basket has a piece of plastic that will line up with the slot when the basket is in place (Safety switch) so that the top part of the shredder knows that the basket is in place.
Look around with a flashlight, If you are going to feel around with your hand, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU UNPLUG the shredder just to be safe.
Check to make sure the shredder is sitting on the paper bin properly. Most shredders have a sensor switch that disables the unit if it's not properly seated on the paper bin.
