Here is some general advice. Shredders have an interlock to be sure they don't run while the basket is not in place. They don't want you holding the head unit and it starts running and shreds your fingers. So you need to look for the switch that tells the head unit that it is in place over the basket. I'm guessing here but it might be something like a little plastic protrusion that pushes into the head unit to activate a swith. It is possible that the little plastic piece is broken and is not activating the head unit. That would explain why the display thinks that the basket is ajar or misaligned. BE CAREFUL if you tinker with the interlock and be sure it is unplugged!! That is an ORDER!

Check the Power Ensure that the shredder top is firmly placed in the shredder basket if the unit will not operate. If the top is not in place the feeder will not work and accept any paper. Make sure it is firmly plugged into the wall outlet and that the outlet is active. Rest the Shredder Let the shredder cool down if the shredder has been running continuously for a long time. It may have overheated and needs to be left in the off position for at least 30 minutes to reset. Verify the basket is empty or not too full as that will cause the shredder to deactivate. Clear Paper Jam Rotate the shredder into "Auto" and reverse to loosen any paper jam that is stopping the gears. Pull out any papers that are sticking out from the shredder feeder. If there is no progress then unplug the shredder and remove the shredder top from the bin. Turn it upside down and use tweezers to free any paper that is blocking the gear. Auto Mode Not Working Select the "Auto" option and feed paper into the center of the feeder tray if the shredder is only working in reverse mode. The sensor is located in the middle of the feeder tray and could be blocked by jammed paper. Use an index card to firmly unblock any paper that could be blocking the sensor.

the shredder has a safety switch that closes when the unit is put back on the basket. check under the cutter head for the hole that has the switch and check your basket for the acuator put together so they will line up

there are two switches under the cutter area. 1 for sensing when your basket is full, (sometimes these bin-full flaps get stuck in the up position, energizing the switch) and the other is a switch that detects if your basket is installed. fellowes has modified these shredders so many times, that there are alot of different configurations. look for something that resembles a flap under the head and make sure its in the down position. as for the basket sensor, some baskets had 2 projections on the left and right top of basket. one may be broke. if so, you can "cheat" the switch with a screwdriver to see if thats the problem.

Your problem is probally with the safety interlock switch on your machine. On the PS-65c It is located on the right hand side of the unit. There will be a tab of plastic on the inside lip of the basket that goes into a slot on shredder head. If plastic piece is bent or broken machine will not operate. If it does not appear broken make sure when you put shredder head on that it fits flush all the way around on the basket. ok " if the ready light did not come on it's telling you that there is no power sound like the plug in transformer is no good .

you can check that transformer , with a multimeter, see if you have the right voltage.

Make sure the pull-out wastebasket is all the way in. Also, make sure the basket is less than half full. A paper jam could also cause this symptom.
