Fellowes Manufacturing Powershred SB-97CS Shredder Logo
Posted on Jan 14, 2010

One of the gears in my sb-97cs has broken. The motor runs but the broken gear prevents the teeth from rotating and pulling paper into shred. I have spoken with people at Fellowes on the phone and they have a replacement part that can be installed. The rep. on the phone said it is simple to replace and you can remove the paper bin and simply remove the silver colored top of the shredder. I have tried removing the top to see the gears but it will not come off? How can I get inside to view/change the gears? Thanks.

I have the same problem with a stripped gear, to remove the top i found it best to place the shredder on its back, then with a pozi screw driver there are 5 screws securing the top in place, these are inside the shredder above the paper bin, 1 in each corner and 1 in the centre.

Hope this helps.

The top has five screws holding the top on that are accessed from th bottom. Have a log screwdriver handy because they are deep set. Fitfh screw is in the center. Unplug ground and top opens to the right.

the top of the bin acutally pops off it feels like it will break but if you take out the bin and place your foot on the bottom inside of the container then grab the top section of the shredder and pull up firmly it should snap right off.. from there you can flip it over and remove the screws..

My shredder won't shred

If the motor will not run, then probably there's paper clogged in the shredder. Turn over the shredder, after unplugging the power cord, and remove the papers.

If the motor will run but not shredding any paper, then the drive gear has broken teeth. This is not usually worth fixing.
Hope this helps.

Runs but doesn't feed paper and shred

Hi, If the shredder teeth / cutters arent moving, then there is most likely a broken/stripped gear or a gear with broken teeth.
If the cutters are moving, then look to see if there is something obstructing the entrance slot where you place the paper.
Good luck.

Parts for fellows sb-97cs

Check eBay for parts or Craigslist for a shredder you can cannibalize. Sometimes Fellowes can give you the part number which can help you search.

My shredder has the sound like it is working, but it is not shredding.

From your description, it sounds like when you insert the paper the motor turns on, but the paper is not pulled into the shredder, indicating the two shredder cylinders are not turning. The most likely cause of this is a stripped (missing teeth) main nylon gear. These can be replaced but require some effort.

Royal Shredder 1200MX model Motor is running but not rotating blades to engage cutting fed paper

If the motor is running but the cutting blades are not turning then you have likely lost a gear/ or the teeth off a gear inside. You will have to open it up to find out which gear/gears are broken then you can contact Royal at 1-800-524-0799 for parts pricing and assistance.

Machine is turned on- constantly running- but will not shred.

You say it is constantly running.....you can hear the motor running all the time???? Clean the "eyes" if there is something dust/tape etc, stuck on or covering the eyes that could account for it running all the time...but you say it will not shred....look into the cutting shafts where you insert the paper and see if the shafts are turning....if they are not; but the motor is running, then you also have likely stripped a gear or teeth inside off a gear. You will have to open the unit up to see what is broken...then contact Royal at 1-800-524-0799 for parts assistance.

The motor runs but will not take paper and shred it. Embassey model pape shredder.

If the motor runs but the cutting blades are not turning then you have probably broken a gear or teeth on a gear inside...open up the top to verify.

Shredder is making a noise, but is not shredding when I put paper in.

Look into the machine as you try and shredding a single sheet of paper. Are the cutters rotating? If not then it could be that your machine has a damaged drive gear. The motor will still spin but will not have gear teeth to engage. It's time to call a tech in.
If they are turning, you may have something blocking the paper path.

Shredding no more

if the unit is pulling paper thru but not shredding your cutters have separated for some reason. If not pulling paper thru but machine is running you probally have a broken gear causing cutters to no longer turn you may hear a clunking or grinding noise or gear may be stripped if shredder sounds like it is spinning freely. Contact manufacturer for parts availability.
