I SEARCH A DRIVER FOR CANOSCANFB630U FOR VISTA

  • Anonymous Feb 27, 2008

    Hi,

Yes, I have exact the same problem. I have a scanner, CanoScan FB630U and my operating system is Vista.

The solution that you offered Moid is not feasible as the solution offered is not applicable when you run Vista. (When I select my operating system, it says: "no driver found".

    Any other suggestions? Thank you.

    Regards,

    Gaby

Good scanner but I can't find Driver for Vista x64 or x86.

  • knifecollect Sep 19, 2008

My version of Vista found the scanner and installed a driver, but it still won't work without the Scangear Tool Box Software. It isn't available for Windows Vista.

Anyone know where i can get a driver for this scanner? i can't believe they haven't created one..please help! thanks, heidi

This solution will cost you a bit (and given the low price of some new or reconditioned all-in-ones these days, you may not think it worth it), but the user interface is better, IMHO, than the CanoScan Toolbox and, by Jeezly, the thing just WORKS. After I installed it, I unplugged my FB630U, plugged it back in again, and BOOM!, Vista said that it had installed the driver. I was so tickled, I promptly bought the more expensive version of the software, and my good ol' CanoScan is scanning again. Check out VueScan from http://www.hamrick.com/. The unpurchased download adds watermarks, but you can at least try before you buy. Now why the hell can't Canon come up with a driver for its own scanner?

Unfortunately Henru's fix for the FB630U is a deadend.

The US Canon site has this notice:

http://www.usa.canon.com/opd/controller?act=OPDSupportVistaAct

Products or models that are not listed in the menus below are currently not supported in Windows Vista™ or will be supported soon in Windows Vista™. Canon aspires to provide the most up-to-date information on Canon drivers and software. Please check back soon for updates.

this is a german driver, if u want your CanoScan FB630u run under VISTA try this one, it worked for me... if u can't reach this site search under http://software.canon-europe.com. u have to find the XP Scan Gear (Twain) 5.3.2, download it and install it through the system control -> device manager by clicking on your scanner device and "search for driver manually"
The XP driver is working for vista, too.

hope i could help everyone whos searching for a driver after me ;)

You can download:

No driver for Canoscan FB 630U Vista 64 bit

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Canon supports this scanner under Vista. Check if the Windows generic TWAIN scanner driver will work. The Canon software won't work. If the generic driver can be installed, then you should be able to acquire scans in Paint (File > Import from Scanner or Camera), Windows Fax and Scan (New Scan) (some versions of Vista) or Windows Photo Gallery (IIRC it works like Paint).

I hope this helps.

(Canon wants you to upgrade. I have a different scanner that isn't officially supported past XP and the generic driver works fine. Unfortunately, you can't just use the XP driver in the compatibility mode due to the lack of signed drivers that are required in the 64-bit OS)

Can CanoScan be installed on two computers?

Most scanners including all-in-one printers can be shared acrossed a network. Hook up the scanner to one computer. At that computer, go into the control panel and to scanners (XP that would be printers and other hardware and then scanners). Right click on the CanoScan and click sharing. You can assign a name to the device. Go to other networked computer and add the device. You should be given an option to locate device on a network. Install the same driver and software you want to use with scanner.

Note: I'm not a Mac user, I've given instructions based on Windows XP/Vista. But, process should be similar.

Try Vuescan from Hamrick. I have used it to successfully scan from FB636U on a XP 64 installation and Vista with no drivers needed. A free trial is available. www.hamrick.com/
