Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Canon supports this scanner under Vista. Check if the Windows generic TWAIN scanner driver will work. The Canon software won't work. If the generic driver can be installed, then you should be able to acquire scans in Paint (File > Import from Scanner or Camera), Windows Fax and Scan (New Scan) (some versions of Vista) or Windows Photo Gallery (IIRC it works like Paint).

I hope this helps.

(Canon wants you to upgrade. I have a different scanner that isn't officially supported past XP and the generic driver works fine. Unfortunately, you can't just use the XP driver in the compatibility mode due to the lack of signed drivers that are required in the 64-bit OS)

Ooh i really feel bad for you! vista 64 bit operating system fails at almost everything. the only way you are going to fix this is if you reload your laptop with windows xp professional or ultimate 32 bit, or windows 7 pro or ultimate 64 or 32 bit. never use vista as an operating system. its the reason people switch to macs. its exactly the same as windows CE or windows ME. please dont waste your time looking for drivers for vista 64 bit. you wont find any that function correctly. reload you OS

Canon Canoscan D1259U2F dont have any driver for Windows 7 64-bit

the only successful method I found for using CanoScan D1250U2F in 64 bit Windows 7 (I guess the same would be for 64 bit Vista) is to use Windows XP Mode in Virtual PC (attach the scanner as USB device and that's it - works perfectly)

I had a problem with Windows 7 detecting the device as CanoScan (needed for Windows XP Mode to detect is as USB device and allow attach) - the solution was to unplug the scanner, plug it in and CANCEL Windows 7 hardware detection process before it finishes - this leaves it as "CanoScan" device (auto-detect will leave it as "Unrecognized device" and with that unusable/un-attachable in Windows XP Mode)

latest versions of Windows XP Mode will make your hard drives accessible as network locations (no need for external media)

Can CanoScan be installed on two computers?

Most scanners including all-in-one printers can be shared acrossed a network. Hook up the scanner to one computer. At that computer, go into the control panel and to scanners (XP that would be printers and other hardware and then scanners). Right click on the CanoScan and click sharing. You can assign a name to the device. Go to other networked computer and add the device. You should be given an option to locate device on a network. Install the same driver and software you want to use with scanner.

Note: I'm not a Mac user, I've given instructions based on Windows XP/Vista. But, process should be similar.

I am trying to install canoscan fb630u scanner with vista 64 bit. the scanner does not support vista

Try Vuescan from Hamrick. I have used it to successfully scan from FB636U on a XP 64 installation and Vista with no drivers needed. A free trial is available. www.hamrick.com/

Canoscan does not work on vista 64-bit

I'm not sure if this will work on the lide 20. I have an lide 35, and there are no 64 bit drivers for it. I downloaded and installed the drivers for the lide 60, told the computer to manually find the lide 60 drivers for my scanner, and installed the canoscan toolbox for vista 64 bit. Works like a champ.

Windows vista 64 bit driver

Hi mtrump1,

Thanks for your posting in FixYa.

The driver are available on the Canon Website, use this link to get it:

http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0000441.asp

or

For Vista 64 Bit you can try:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/SCANNER-Digital-CAMERA-WEBCAM/CANON/Canon-CanoScan-D1230U-611c.shtml

But i think both should be compatible to run in any 32 or 64 bit environment.

Scanner

This solution will cost you a bit (and given the low price of some new or reconditioned all-in-ones these days, you may not think it worth it), but the user interface is better, IMHO, than the CanoScan Toolbox and, by Jeezly, the thing just WORKS. After I installed it, I unplugged my FB630U, plugged it back in again, and BOOM!, Vista said that it had installed the driver. I was so tickled, I promptly bought the more expensive version of the software, and my good ol' CanoScan is scanning again. Check out VueScan from http://www.hamrick.com/. The unpurchased download adds watermarks, but you can at least try before you buy. Now why the hell can't Canon come up with a driver for its own scanner?
