Cannot get DLink to connect with Internet

Hi,

I have Verizon DSL and I cannot seem to get DLink to connect. I have re-set the DLink and Verizon system many times with no luck. I have even "unplugged" both systems, again, with no luck. Any ideas, advice would be extremely helpful.

Thanks,
Joe

Hi Joe,

With a dsl system you need to set the router up to your dsl account using your username and password. Login to your router set-up page. By default this can be done by typing 192.168.0.1 into the address bar of any web browser. Once you login click the setup tab on the top and then click manual configure. In the drop down box pick PPPoE and then move down to the next section. If you have a static IP address then click that radio button otherwise it should be defaulted at dynamic ip. Enter in the username and password that was provided to you by your internet service provider. Select the Always On radio button and then click save settings at the top of the page.

Hope this helps

Regards

Do you have an Internet service provider (ISP), like AT&T or Verizon (if you live in the US) ? Usually, your ISP will give you a modem/router (cable or DSL) for free when you sign up with them for Internet service.

Verizon DSL spotty service

to answer your first question, call verizon to fix the line. it is dropping. Second have verizon change a dsl and test it out.
as far as the tab on the CAT-5, the tab is to lock the cable in place, without it, it will work but you have no insurace as to the connection status. (need cable with tab).

Connection

Hi Susie
With related to your particular issue it seems like that your broadband modem is not configured for the router. There are basically 2 types of connection. DSL and Cable modem. Verizon, ATT are DSL and comcast other providers give you a normal cable broadband connection. If its comcast make sure the cable from the comcast modem is going to the internet port in the linksys router and also make sure that there is a system connection the linksys router and the cable from the system goes to any of LAN 1, 2, 3 and 4 ports. Then reset your cable modem by using a pin and inserting to the reset hole in the modem. You could use the same step to reset your linksys router as well .If its a verizon or dsl connection you need to put normally your username and password in the router page. here is the link to how to configure linksys for your internet modem.
Here is a video as well on it?

Also post the linksys router model. your ISP modem model number and also information on how many systems are wired to the router and wireless and let me know if you need more help.

I have a dlink 614 router connected to a DSL modem. I cannnot connect to the internet after I set up a PPOe configuration and username/password combination but it still wil not connect to the...

Hi There Joecohn,

Definitely, the username and password for your PPPoE connection is correct since that it works perfectly with your Linksys router. If you are getting a WAN IP Address from the status or summary page of your D-link router then you can lower down the MTU size of your router to 1492. If it didn’t work, upgrade or reflash the firmware, reset it back to the factory default and reconfigure the router for PPPoE connection again.

If it will not obtain an IP address or even if it has a WAN IP but can’t go online then we can consider it as a hardware failure on the D-Link router. Have it replaced.
