Poor prints and paper jams

I am having a couple problems. First, my prints are very poor quality with intermittent smears that go all the way across the page every few inches. I'm assuming I need to replace the toner cartridge. Second, when I have been trying to print lately it seems to jam a lot. What might cause this?

Sounds like you probably need a new fuser. Smearing is a good indicator of the fuser not getting the toner to fuse to the paper, also, if it is jamming a lot near where the paper enters the fuser, there is a good chance there is some damage on the fuser unit itself.

How do I solve this problem? My hp LJ 4345 printer experiences intermittent paper jam in fuser(accordion-like) with half of the paper out of the fuser. We've replaced the fuser with a new one but the

This error can be caused by the following:

1. Fuser that is close to end of life. Maximum print quantity is 225,000 pages.

2. poor quality paper, very thin paper never feeds well and will jam.

3. Printing an image that is almost entirely black can cause the paper to buckle before entering the fuser.

Try different paper to see if that resolves the problem.

Could be a fuser problem, but could also be very poor quality toner cartridge(s). If a remanufacturer/compatible maker uses the wrong toner powder, it can have the wrong characteristics.

I've seen these printers with poor quality cartridges able to print a page with very little toner coverage OK, but jam EVERY page that has much real 'density' of toner. Even the configuration page on these printers has a solid band of red 5mm or so wide across the lower part of the page. Poor toners - where the fusing temperature is incorrect for this printer will cause the page to jam in the same place in the fuser EVERY TIME.

The cure - Genuine Xerox toners, or GOOD QUALITY remanufactured toners from a reputable source.

Paper jams after first sheet prints. Tried adding more paper and then taking paper out. Nothing is working. No other sheets are jammed in the printer.

Poor quality paper can cause feed problems as the edge may be poorly sheared causing the sheets to stick together and often leaves fibers on the rollers which reduces their grip. Always 'fan' paper when replenishing to loosen the sheets.
Also, printers with heavy usage will occasionally needs the rubber pickup rollers cleaned. Don't use alcohol since this can dry out the rubbers surface complicating the problem. I have used naphtha to remove the built up paper fibers successfully.

Poor print quality- streaky lines across the page

The problem might be with the type of paper you are using. Some printers require different paper types. Check the manufacturers website to see what kind of paper you need.

the messages you get for cartridges other than the original are not trustful. You will get the right reading for original(from Brother) cartridges. Some ink is poor for printing photo quality.

not any refillable ink is right for printing photos, sometimes too dark, sometimes you don't get the right mix of colors.

Poor Printer Quality

If you have the old drum put it back in and see what happens to the copy. if is better, then yu may have a bad new drum. They do have them. Poor copy quality is normally drum or toner in these Brothers. This model is an excellent machine by the way.
