This is known as the yellow light of death (ironic i know because it blinks red). This is caused by the unit overheating causing the solder on the board to melt and bridge(connect). Once this happens it shorts out the board causing the error you have now. Contact Sony and see if the unit is still under warranty with this site: https://service1.us.playstation.com/rma.htm?_flowExecutionKey=_c3CBE1F3B-DFC4-D270-775C-79EE8015DF90_kB673BBB5-DD6D-8FBD-1883-E46D1D4F1ECE

If the unit is not under warranty go to www.wiredextreme.com. We are a console repair company based in Dallas, Texas. We can get your console up and running again. All our repairs come with a 90 day warranty that covers the whole console not just what we repair. We also offer extended warranties for up to 4 years. If you have any other questions/concerns feel free to email [email protected] or call 214-222-5788.

This is a common occuring problem what has happend is you have the ylod better known as the yellow light of death. This means the solder on the motherboard has come loose and won't supply the needed power to keep the system running so you need to either send it in for repair which is $110. It's gone for two weeks then back just as good as new

When I switch it on it goes immediately on standby mode (with the red light flashing) and cannot make it to work

The best solution on earth!!!
the same thing happened to me. all you do is press the eject button until it turns yellow. when that happens, immediately unplug the ac cord, & plug it back in. repeat this process until the light stays green! trust me, it works. it saves alot of money too if your warranty has ran out

you got a YLOD yellow light of death when you get a yellow light briefly and then the red lights start blinking, you need to reflux the solder on the processors and apply heat to them, here is a link on how to do the repair, if you are not good at doing these kind of work, I would suggest taking it to a pro.

My playstation 3 wont turn on. the red light on

PS3 owners refer to this as the 'Yellow Light of Death' or 'YLOD'. It's quite common. The problem is caused by poor solder joints (due to overheating) on the motherboard and degrading heat sink compound on the fan.

well sounds like your PS3 needs to be reflowed or reballed. I would highly recomend you have a professional do the repair. as fas as having a game stuck inside the machine you can get it out in under 10 seconds by doing this.

1) turn off power switch in back of ps3
2) place finger on eject button and hold there while ps3 is off ( no red light)
3) while holding finger on the eject button turn power switch on the back of ps3 on , hold finger on eject button untill the disk ejects.
4) turn power switch off and have unit repaired or replaced.

if unit is covered by warranty and you send it to sony you must get your disk out of the system as you will NOT get it back if you send it to sony. Most reputable repair shops will return your disk with the system or give it to you before they take the system in for repairs. I ALWAYS give the game disks back before a customer leaves my shop as it leaves me with less to keep track of.

PS3 doesn't appear on screen. Possible power issue.

Hello. There are a few causes for this. I will list acouple solutions for you.

1. Reset the Video Output Settings. While the PLAYSTATION 3 system is in standby mode (red light on the front of the system), hold down the touch-sensitive On/Off button on the front of the system until the system goes into standby mode again . (So the light cycle would go from: red light to --> green light --> then back to red light) This will ensure that you have held down the On/Off button long enough to reset the Video Output Settings. Once you turn it back on, it should work fine.
2. If option 1 does not work call Sony because the video out chip has blown or come unsoldered.

I hope this helps. Good luck to you.
