Acer 17" LCD lost power

My Acer 17" LCD is 4 years old and suddenly stopped showing any light on the front: could this be just a fuse or corroded connection? If so is it repairable? Thanks.

I am not 'tech savy' but am 77 years old and don't want to spend big $$ on a monitor. How much would such repair cost? Thanks.

Its repairable, could be the inverter or screen, not a fuse though...

Are you tech savy?

Testimonial: "Many thanks. That estimate tells me to continue with the old clunky monitor retrieved from the attic."

Acer AL1711 17" LCD Monitor showing white screen

Hello,

A white screen indicates the power supply board is not putting out the correct voltages to properly power the monitor, just the back light. This type of issue is caused by a failure of the filter capacitors on the power board. You can rebuild your power supply board and bring the monitor back to life by just replacing the the bad capacitors. The problem is that model the Acer AL1711 could come with 1 of 4 different power supply boards install depending and the date manufacturer and supply on hand. If you want to repair the monitor if you could open the unit and get either the model number of the power supply board or send a picture of the board to me I will be glad to help you repair the unit and get it back up and running. You can contact me to send the information at [email protected]

Model hp1702 power supply ok inverter ok but connect the lcd panel socket suddenly off's? the green indicator light ...

monitor old very very old. 13 years old in fact.
this is a CCFL back lamp old monitor
so is the back lamp dead, that it.
does a flash light pointed to the face show a working
front panel menu button OSD data now? this is first to do.
OSD is always first then check the backlamps for DEAD.
that green lamp actions are covered in the 1703 manual
did you read that ?
i guess you meant the green LED goes dead? suddenly>?

ill read it to you.

that is not some simple monitor no,
it has its own processor inside, and that needs power too.
it must convert VGA video RGB top LCD data., all non trivial.

page 7

Power Indicator: Green - Power On mode.
Amber - Power Saving mode.
Blank - Power Off Mode

so if it turns its self off
that means the Brain inside sees gross errors.
or the brain side lost power.
there are many tests.
in a pro show we check all power busses, if the black lamps work
the connect up i2c to the I2c port and scan it for errors
this is what we must do to see if the BRAIN inside sees gross errors.
there is no other ways. to do that.

or if connected the CCFL tubes the monitor turns off
well the CCFL tubes are shorted. and if are, then the brain
was correct to shut it off or risk a fire.
see? it really is very smart.

Monitor won't turn on.

Does the cord plug directly from the wall into the monitor, or is there a power "brick" adapter between?

If there's a "brick" listen to see if the hissing is coming from the monitor itself or the brick. If the hissing is coming from the brick you may just need a new power adapter.

If there's no brick or the hissing is coming from the monitor, the monitor probably needs repair. With the price of LCD monitors these days compared to the price of labor, you're probably better off getting a new LCD monitor. Just make sure you take your old one to a proper E-Waste facility so it doesn't pollute the environment.

Acer AL1714 17" LCD Monitor Good Power supply no power on monitor

Hello, I have to same problem. I returned my monitor to Acer but got it back unrepaired, they could not see the malfunction. But I kept on sending it back, until I got a new model. Now after 2 years I get the same thing with this monitor. But there's no warranty anymore, so I looked into the problem myself. I found out that inside the powercircuit board is connected to the mainboard through a 10pin connector. The 5 pins that are on the lowest row, show a trace of white powder, I suppose occidation. I sprayed a little of contactspray in it. I must say the problem is not gone, but much better. The problem shows not so frequent anymore and lasts not so long. At first the screen switched of for 3 to 5 minutes and came back on. Now the screen is gone for perhaps 1 second and returns. So I'm almost convinced the problem has something to do with the connection of the powercircuitboard inside and the mainboard inside, when the monitor heats up a bad connection occurs due to occidation of the 10 pin connector. If you find a solution that fixes the problem 100% let me know, please. Mario.
