i understood your problem, with your SYLVANIA 6842THG
there is main problem in your "picture tube's accelerating anodes".the best way to bring your TV to service center it may need to replace your picture tube.

Thats caused by a convergence failure. The Sony type 1 convergence repair kit from www.tvrepairworld.com will usually correct that issue the kit contains the components and the CD with repair instructions so you can repair yourself.

What kind of shadowing are you seeing? Doe the picture look like a 3D movire (colors separated)? What is the make and model?

Please update this with the above info and I'll provide possible solutions.

Search Google "Screen Burn-In."
Mainly Plasma screens are affected by it.

Sounds like an allinment problem with the color projection you can allin yourself via small screws on color tubes in rear. but be careful as tv needs to be on to do it.

1. Power off -- let bulb cool.
2. Display - 5 - VOL+ - Power (in quick sequence) to display service menu.
3. Go into the user menu and set auto revision back to auto.
4. Put an image on the screen that shows the problem. I always found the edges of a 4:3 aspect ratio signal displayed the ghosting very well on my set.
5. Use 2 to scroll through the categories to find D GM TG
6. Use 1 to scroll through items in D GM TG to find V POS D
7. Write down current value.
9. Use 3 and 6 to change the value to minimize the ghosting. You should only need to move it up or down a value or two.
10. Press Mute - Enter to save the changes.
11. Power off and let the bulb cool.

Possible bad picture tube-would have to check voltages on CRT
socket circuit board.......T.

Note: always good idea to give your set model number.
