Viewing Tape recorded from a different camcorder

I have a CCD-TRV138. I used to have a DCR-TRV730. I cannot view the old tapes on the new camcorder. How can I convert the old to DVD? Help! Thank you!

If you want to record your video tapes on to DVD's using your computer you will need to install on to the computer a video and audio capture card that is compatible to the player that you are going to use for the source. Along with that you will need to install the necessary software that comes with the capture card set, and also you will need the matched interface cables. The computer will also need a large enough hard disk to hold the video information.

You need a player that is compatible to read the old tapes. You can feed the player to a video capture card on your computer. You can then record the video programs on to your computer. After they are recorded, you can start buring DVD's.

There are also professional services that will transfer video tapes to DVD's. They will have much better quality equipment than what you could afford for home use, and you will save a lot of time, energy, and cost compared to doing this yourself, unless you are determined to do it and don't care about the time and cost.

On my 2005 Sony hi8 CCD-TRV138 when I try to record it says "the tape is locked- check the tab"

The switch is right where the protection tab is on the cassette when the tape is inserted. It is unlikely you can fix, and as it is a quality recorder, I would take it to a Sony Service Centre.

I have a sony handy cam model ccd-trv37 on which I just recorded my son at his high school musical. i now want to transfer this tape recording to my Apple Imac so I can edit it and send it to friends. Is...

Yes, firewire or IEEE1394 also called iLink.
Most cameras have a 4 pin connection and Macs a 6, newer models use 9 pin.
iMovie should be on your Mac and this will capture the footage.

My camcorder can play old tapes but won't record

Hi,
Your camcorder Sony DCR-HC20E has bad ccd imager problem and that part will be replaced to have live view to record on tape.
I can provide you ccd imager part number info if you want to repair it by yourself.
CCD Imager replacement in this camcorder requires expertise and fair skills of soldering parts in PCB.

Video recording shuts down after 15 seconds

I just looked at my Sony DCR-TRV30. Not the same, but perhaps similar. My camera records lengthy videos on tape and only brief videos on memory stick. I suggest that you stick to tape for video.
Good Luck

Mode for playback of older 8mm tapes using Sony DCR-TRV730 ?

In 1990s Sony camcorder records movie in analog format so playing in digital camcorder like DCR-TRV730 doesn't mean it will be converted in digital format and you can not import file in PC for editing purpose. You will get analog signal while playing back old cassettes.

Regarding SP, LP speed, its decided at time of recording. Camera sens SP or LP automatically in playback and set itself accordingly.

If you want to convert old cassettes into digital format, connect our camcorder to DVD recorder and burn DVD which is digital format, copy DVD files in to PC and do desired editing.
