Computer crashed and won't boot. restarts before it loads

I just opened firefox and my computer screen froze, had horizontal lines across the screen and started flickering. I turned it off and now it just turns on and there are vertical colored lines that fade in and out and then my computer restarts. it never reaches the boot screen. what's wrong?

Firefox is a bad virus program three thing to do
1st safe mode
if not, reboot vista disk.
If can't you need to go to bios to run cd to restart fresh program. but remember if this you loose all media.

MSIE and Firefox won't open ... how do I download updated versions, or another browser, without a browser to work with?

I recently had a Firefox problem. It disappeared! Fortunately the very old version of IE I have still worked but every time I downloaded Firefox it disappeared again within a few minutes.

I tried Opera and Safari downloads but although they seemed to download ok they remained stubbornly frozen.
I tried one of those operating systems never heard of before with similar results - slightly more successful in that it worked albeit at a snail's pace.

Over the next few hours I downloaded and used every clean-up programme suggested on the Firefox website, used spybot and scanned with Zonealarm to no effect whatsoever.

I was forced to continue with the old IE intending to format the drive and reload everything but never getting around to it. A couple of weeks later out of interest I downloaded Firefox again with great success.
I have been convinced for a few years XP tends to heal itself over time and many starts and restarts...

Clearly my computer was attacked by something unpleasant and probably yours was too. Format the drive and reload everything is the best plan.

To get over your immediate problem try downloading a few browsers on a friend's computer and burning them to disc or memory stick and load onto your computer in the old-fashioned way.

Good luck!

Gx620 boots up, then screen goes blank, reboot gives blank screen with cursor blinking. will boot with cd but still shuts down after a minute or two.

Remove the battery and open the case. Look inside the computer with a flashlight to see if any of the capacitors are busted or leaking from corrosion. The capacitors look like little battery towers, but they are not as tall as the AA or AAA batteries.

If the capacitors are bad, your computer goes bunkers.

it may be worth trying this

power up and press the Alt+F10 as soon as possible and this may take you into the factory restore option
where you should have about 2 different options of recovery
just follow the on screen instructions

i hope you can get it sorted

Hi, maybe you can take a try of this rescue program called PowerSuite Golden. I came across similar blue screen situaiton on my HP laptop (win 7) and it helped me get rid of it and rescued my data back. It is an awesome toolkit that includes a boot CD and several other data rescue tools that help get your PC going even if Windows won't start or computer won't boot up at all. Hope it helps in your situation too. Regards

Yes that sounds very much like an overheating system alright... what you describe is what I have seen with overheating Video cards, & Processors. The fan should go most of the time indeed. The only way to remedy this is by substitution of the CPU or Video card. it may also be the RAM, the same symptoms can be caused by this too.

Horizontal lines across whole screen

Bad inverter, or a dirty one. Remove the power cable and battery, then take apart the screen bezel, or casing. Remove the LCD by unhooking it. Disconnect the inverter. Clean it. Reconnect it. Fixed.

Stripes on my Samsung Monitor

The contrast may be to high.
Adjust the brightness and contrast to make it go away but still readable.
if that does not help the FL (backlight) is going and the unit will need to be replaced.
Sorry.
