It's on lock control

If you are referring to the Control Lock on a Whirlpool Duet, Kenmore Elite, or Maytag Epic series front loader, this is actually a safety feature that enables the consumer to lock the control panel to prevent children from manipulating the controls and accidentally starting the appliance.

With the lock on, the control panel is disabled and you cannot use any of the controls, except the button to unlock it. It can inadvertently be set following a power outage, leaning against the control panel, or pressing and holding the wrong button. This is usually not an indication of a malfunction.

If this is a Whirlpool manufactured appliance (such as Kenmore Elite, Maytag Epic or Whirlpool Duet), the following link explains how to lock/unlock this feature:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3608801-control_panel_lock

These instructions are also printed on the front panel of the appliance and in the owner's manual.

If this does not correct your problem, then you may have a more significant problem other than a simple operator control button issue (such as an operator console problem or main control board issue). Please post back and let me know if you need further assistance.

Control locked

If you have a front loader then Press and hold the "end of cycle" button for 5-10 seconds and it will reset the child safety lock.
If the control locked light will not turn off, I recommend unplugging the washer for 5 minutes. Plug the unit back in and see if the controls will respond. If not, You could have a failed control console or a bad electronic control board in the washer.

My Maytag front load washing machine's control lock is on and the machine will not run. How do I get the light off so the machine can run?

The Control Lock is actually a safety feature that enables the consumer to lock the control panel to prevent small children from manipulating the controls and accidentally starting the appliance. This can usually be reset and does not require a technician.

With the lock on, the control panel is disabled and you cannot use any of the controls, except the button to unlock it. It can inadvertently be set following a power outage, leaning against the control panel, or pressing and holding the wrong button. This is usually not an indication of a malfunction.

If this does not correct your problem, then you may have a more serious problem than a simple operator control button issue (such as an operator console problem). Please post back and let me know if you require additional assistance. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: Maytag Epic is manufactured by Whirlpool, so these instructions should apply.

Control lock

Press the button on the far right next to the Off button and hold for 3 seconds. I think it's the "Cycle End Signal" button.

This should release the control.

It's a child safety feature.
