My DELL LCD monitor keeps flashing after the computer shuts down
My DELL LCD monitor keeps flashing in different colours on the blank screen after my computer is shut down. There seems to be a purple tinge on the screen when i go to the internet. Any idea why? Thanks.

Check the caps in the power supply/inverter bd. and on the logic bd. first. Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague http://www.badcaps.net
Screen-colours are "additive" -- mix just 2 of the 3 primary colours, and you could get "yellow" -- mix all 3 or the primary colours, and you will get "white".
In order of "easy" and "cheap" to "difficult" and "expensive":
Check that the "data" cable is tightly connected at both ends,
so that all 3 colours are being transmitted from your computer.
Try a different "data" cable between the computer and the LCD.
Try connecting the LCD to a different computer (laptop or desktop).
Try adding a different video-adapter into your computer.
It is one of three things, One is that it's not recieving a signal, mine flash when the computer is shut down, several monitors do this now. The second is that the either the video card is in need of service, or if you don't have a video card in your machine, it is either a connection that is intermittent, check the other end of the cable, or the monitor is in need of service, there is a circuit board that gives it a boost on start up. How old is the monitor and what brand? all the info is needed to go any further, thanks, if it is 5 years old more or less it is the monitor gone bad, more than likely
This issue could be either the Monitor inverter failing or it could be your Video card. If you have another computer available, plug the monitor into a different computer and see if you get the same behavior, if you do, then the monitor is failing and needs to be replaced. If on a different computer it works fine, then you may have a video card failing. Does it seem to happen the longer the monitor is on? Could be as it heats up, it starts to fail.
From your description your backlight is going out. The fluorescent light when it begins to burn out tries to draw too much power. Your inverter is sensing this 'too much' power draw and shuts down power to the back light. Replacing the backlight is the most technically difficult repair of an LCD, and most repair shops don't even offer this service. I recommend that you sell your LCD 'AS IS' on eBay or a similar website. The Power board and the Control Board are both usable parts that can be easily salvaged from most Dell Ultrasharp monitors.
The screen colour changing is apparently an auto test procedure on the monitor and was prompted by a fault with the monitor not automatically shutting down when the computer is shut down. The settings on the monitor have been adjusted to rectify this and the problem is now gone.
try to start your pc in safemode with vga mode with thjis faulty monitor
hope you know how to do it
start pc (powerr on)
then continuously press F8 key then it will show you boot menu
select safemode with command prompt
then if it show desktop on screen this means your monitor is having problem with resolution try to downgrade your monitor's resolution
rightclik on desktopgo to properties
select settings
here you can find screen resolution make it to 800X 600 just for one time
then restart your pc it will auto select proper screen resolution
hi, check out the connector pins if any is damaged or bent, if not try it on a different system just to confirm that its not the display card problem, let me know??
