When trying to run magic focus on Hitachi 51swx20b, it stops on green. Picture is curved on the bottom of the screen

sound like a common problem where the coolant for the tubes has become contaminated. It is possible to replace the coolant yourself and can be a much cheaper alternative to getting repair shop to fix.
do a search for replace coolant 51swx20b

Do adjustments on focus block. Will have to open front panel access door, focus block blue will be on left, green will be on top. Top screen bottom focus. Turn clockwise to increase, counter clockwise to decrease brightness. Turn the color all the way down on menu where it's pure black and white and make adjustments for perfect black and white picture, then when you adjust color, it will be perfect.

YOU HAVE A CONVERGENCE PROBLEM. THE RED OUTPUT IS OUT. COMMONLY IT HAS BEEN FOUND TO BE THE DIGITAL CONTROLLER MODULE THET CAUSES THIS BUT THE OUTPUT IC SHOULD BE CHECKED FIRST

The model number you have selected here does not have magic focus--if you really want a answer post the correct model number.

Need to have convergence board rebuilt, do not adjust anything this will make the technician charge more for the additional labor of having to "undo" your "repair" leave it for a professional technician, as it can be dangerous. we would charge at least $400 this would include readjustment. You have a projection light element out. I had the green element go on mine. I had a service agreement so a repair tech changed it.

Solution:

Your TV has a convergence problem. Here are some of the most common symptoms.

Screen looks 3D
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed in or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence or magic focus section.

Try to adjust the convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Its a fairly easy fix on the Hitachi sets.

You can get a repair kit that includes all the parts from www.TvRepairKits.com. The kit includes a photo instruction guide, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, etc.
Everything you need to fix it yourself.

I have a blue-ish yellow ghost tint which just appeared on my 51" 51SWX20B made July 2002. Did the magic focus got a number 5 at the end. Did you get a number when you did the magic focus?
