Boot to BIOS (F2 at boot) ensure the drive is seen there. If it is then boot to Windows and run this fixit utility

If it is not seen in BIOS, then check cable connections to the drive.

If you are runny windows 7, this will most likely not work due to compatibility issues. If you are running XP this problem will not occur. The only solution to use this drive would be downgrade to a different operating system or a different computer. If this is not an option. Get a new drive.

The DVD Burner will not burn a Memorex DVD - R . Should I purchase Verbatum or Memorex for an older model MSI DVD Burner? Or, Should I purchase Verbatum or Memorex for an older model Samsung TS H652...

You are on the right track. Every "multi-format" DVD recorder, DVD burner and DVD-RW drive I have ever owned has had problems with one type of media or another. This is because the discs all have their own patented dye mixtures, and each is a little bit different.

I have problems using Memorex DVD-R discs on my Toshiba DVD recorder. The only drive I can get good results with Memorex DVD-R's is on my Memorex DVD drive.

For DVD-R media, I have had the best success with TDK DVD-R's.So far, they have worked on all my devices.

You may want to try DVD+R media. I use Memorex Lightscribe DVD+R and for dual layer recording, I use Ativa DVD+R DL discs, both of which have worked very well and I rarely have to throw one away.

It takes allot longer, but on my PC I always use the "verify" function to make sure I get a good copy.

Cd-rw/dvd drive broke a computer game disk. got all the pieces out but now computer does not recognize drive and drive wont close. green light doesnt come on. Its a cd-rw/dvd drive ts-h493. what do i do?

This is due to the cracked disc is damage the sensor inside your cd-rw/dvd drive. If still under waranty, you can send it to warranty claim. If it's over warranty, then you have to replace with a new one.
