I bought the same TV two weeks ago and had the same problem. After doing some reading I found that some of the sound boards(don't know if mine is one)had a grounding problem and Vizio suggested turning the backlight to 100 or replacing the sound card. This was unacceptable to me. So I bought a 3 prong adapter to get rid of the ground and it works GREAT!! Also make sure that your cable or satellite box is not using an adapter if it is 3 pronged. The humming was gone instantly!!!
Try unplugging any equipment that you have attached to the tv one at a time, such as dvd players, surround sound, cable box, etc. also if you have a cable box attached, try adjusting the volume on it. if you have everything unplugged from tv and it still hums, then it may be a tv issue

Find out how to repair this? I have the ... Cracked TV Screen - LCD & LED TV Panel Repair Options & Replacement ... VizioFlat Screen Repair.
LCD inverter module may have encountered a failure. Most common is an electrolytic capacitor failing in the power supply. Examine the board to see if any of the caps have a bloated or raised top, they should not be swollen or leaky. If so find the replacement capacitor # on line and replace. You will require a modicum of soldering skills. You indicate the tv is 6 months old.
Return it for warranty service, do not open your tv or you will void your consumer warranty.
it may be the device(cable box, game system ?? ) connected to the tv has a volume control as well and that devices volume control is set very low. is dvd or vcr input fine? Is this connected to a computer, then check the volume control on the computer.
I think I had the same problem. This is how I fixed it.
I have my vizio 42 hooked up to a Harmon Kardon surround sound, and the digital cable box. Essentially, I can adjust the volume 3 ways - through the tv, cable box or av receiver. The humming sound happens when you have the volume maxed out on the av receiver and not the cable box.
For example, the sound level on my Harmon Kardon goes from -10 (lowest) to 10 (loudest), with 0 being the middle ground. The buzzing was happening when the Harmon Kardon was set to 10, and I was using the cable box volume to adjust the sound. To fix it, I turned down the volume on my receiver to 0, which may be about 50% max volume of the receiver. Then, I switched devices and used the volume on my cable box. This got rid of the static I was getting. Hope that helps.
I would check and see if you have the text option on under your closed captioning. With the new digital transition the signal for text captioning has been getting messed up during broadcast here lately. If it is on i would just shut it off or go to regular closed captioning.
