Its not easy to share a scanner in Windows as you rarely get the sharing tab when you click on the scanner properties. However there is a free app called SaneTwain that works really well.
Most scanners including all-in-one printers can be shared acrossed a network. Hook up the scanner to one computer. At that computer, go into the control panel and to scanners (XP that would be printers and other hardware and then scanners). Right click on the CanoScan and click sharing. You can assign a name to the device. Go to other networked computer and add the device. You should be given an option to locate device on a network. Install the same driver and software you want to use with scanner.
Note: I'm not a Mac user, I've given instructions based on Windows XP/Vista. But, process should be similar.

Scanner 'Canoscan 4200F' will not run. Appears to be a problem with the drive mechanism. Sounds like cog wheel not engaging properly ? It has not had a lot of use, maybe two or three dozen times.

I am scanning coloured drawings (grandson) and the white paper background turns blue when scanning. SHows white on "preview" then changes ( still in preview) to blue tone when time to "scan". I tried "photocolour" and "magazine", settings; both turn the background bluish.

Trying to run CanoScan 4200F on laptop with Vista 32 bit. Software successfully installed, and operates, but when I click the 'aquire' button, the system just keeps trying to identify the scan, but never gets any further. I have tried multiple times, with the same result. Strangely, the software will detect my HP 5510xi (the software for which is unsupported in Vista)

I have downloaded all updated drivers, etc. and their tech support people gave me some suggestions (that did not work)---I can only scan one page at a time and then the scanner does not find the TWAIN source. I have to close out the ToolBox and restart process to scan another page. It does not point to the Scanner for additional scanning and the box show blank and the pull down menu shows nothing.
