SOURCE: kenmore elite oasis dryer turns on but doesn't

The F40 error is a communication error which means the main control W10111616 is not communicating with the motor control part number 8544799.

First - go through the machine and check all harneses 7 plugs. This expensive machine uses the cheapest parts possible. Unplug and re-plug all connections you can find.
Particularly the controller (CCU) and motor.

Most likely neither control is the problem but since the main control was replaced we know it's not the problem.

The key to diagnosing this problem is to check voltage to the motor control. There is a black and white wire going to L1 and neutral.
Refer to the wiring diagram for an image of this.
If there is 120 volts to the control and the blower motor is not running then the 8544799 motor control is most likely at fault.

It is more likely you will not read voltage there.
Use extreme caution checking live voltage and only do so if you're comfortable and confident using a volt/ohm meter.

If there is no voltage to the motor control and the main motor doesn't run the thermal fuse can be at fault or the main control which was replaced and didn't help.

From the description you give I believe the main motor is running when you get the F40 code so the thermal fuse and main control are most likely okay.

If there is no voltage to the motor control then the problem can be a fuse link that may be open preventing voltage from getting to the motor control.

This part is not the thermal fuse and is not listed in the parts diagram or even shown on the wiring diagram. The fuse link is most likely the cause of your troubles.
If the inline fuse link is open you will have to replace the entire wire harness. The inline fuse link is not available as a separate part.

What does the code F40 mean

I know that it can be very frustrating to have issues with your dryer. In the console there are two control boards. One is the machine control and the other is the motor control and the F40 error indicates a communication error. That means the two controls are not talking to each other. There is a test that you can perform to determine what is causing the issue. The image below will provide these instructions for you. Once you have determined this, then you can replace the correct part.

I have an F40 code on my Kenmore Elite Dryer, model # 110.67092600

Fault code F40 is a communication error between the machine control and the motor control. Disconnect power then remove three screws from the rear of the console assembly and pull console towards the front of the dryer to hinge open and remove console. You'll see three electronic assemblies; the machine control electronics, the motor control electronics, and the user interface electronics.

Visually check the communication harness, the three-wire harness that connects between the machine control electronics and the motor control electronics. Make sure it is fully inserted into both electronic controls and the terminal connections are clean. Reseating the connections several times will help clean off dirt and corrosion build up.

Do the same with the the wire harnesses connected to the motor control electronic assembly. Make sure they are clean and fully inserted into the control. It is a good idea to do the same thing with all other wire harnesses in all of the electronic assemblies.

Model 110.78082701 F40 error code what does it tell is bad?

F40 is a error that appears between the machine control and the motor control when communication becomes lost. I had this same issue. My dryer would run and heat up but then stop and give me the f40. I measured all thermisters and everything was in range. The tech sheet stated that I needed to buy a new control board and I did. Same problem.
The solution was a loose connection on for p4. I took needle nose pliers and squeezed the connector to make it fit tight on the board and everything is working now.
Bottom line, expensive dryer with cheap connectors.

Kenmore elite oasis dryer model #110.6708 will not operate. flashes f-40. what does f-40 mean?

F40 = thermal fuse blown.
If the fuse is OK the error points to a communication problem between the machine control board and motor control board (check connectors).
