The refrigerator and freezer will not get cold enough The freezer is at 20 degrees and the refrigerator is at 55degrees and they are set at the coldest settings. the unit is about 14 years old.

refrigerators run from 5 to 10 degrees C so your machine is on the upper limit of 9 degrees c
the freezer is at minus 13 degrees c and most work down to minus 20 degrees c so that is in limits
Get a technician in to check the thermostats and in the mean time check the condition of the door seals as they will loose the cold very easily is cracked or not sealing properly

Most likely the defrost heater is not turning off. Either a bad limit switch or a bad timer.

Is the other freezer setting set differently? u cannot have both settings set to high ans they will conflict with one another. u may have an issue with ur cold control thermostat, can check it with a multi meter. may also have a low freon issue. is freezer fan working ok? door seals ok?

The cold control on most boxes controls the freezer temperature. You want the freezer temp to be around zero degrees.

Somewhere (usually in the refrigerator section) there's another control that actually sets a damper, letting some cold air from the freezer into the refrigerator. Higher numbers equal lower temperature. Find that second control knob and turn it up by 1 or 2 numbers, let an hour or so pass and check your refrigerator temp. You want about 40 degrees in the fridge.

Hi, Change the controls back to normal settings. Make sure the freezer is getting 0 to 5 above. If the freezer is getting cold enough, try and turn the cold control to 1 and see if the refrigerator shuts off. It sounds like the cold control in not working properly and will need to be replaced. NOTE: The freezer temp has to be right temp or the fresh food side will not work proper.

In most refrigerator freezers, the refrigerator gets its cold from the freezer. The evaporator fan circulates air over the coils in the freezer and cold air circulates into the refrigerator through vents. If the vents are blocked or closed, then the fridge will not get cold enough but the freezer will. If neither is cold enough, then the number of possibilities increases.
Lowering the freezer temperature will increase the cooling cycle activity. Setting the refrigerator temperature may have little affect on the cooling cycles because it simply changes the vent opening size. Decreasing the fridge temperature opens the vents more and increases air circulation from the freezer.
The temperature can be adjusted using the controls found inside the refrigerator or freezer. The ideal freezer temperature is about 0 to 5 degrees (F) and about 38 degrees (F) for the fridge.
Measure the temperature by placing a cup of water with a cooking thermometer into the refrigerator for about 2 hours or more. To test the freezer, substitute alcohol or cooking oil.
