Try using a needle to pop the button back up. If this fails then most likely the spring for the button has failed and you'll have to use your new parts. Another method is to tap the button with a teaspoon handle lightly several times.

Testimonial: "Tomorrow I will use the needle and teaspoon tapping idea to repair the printer... Thanks a bunch !"

My HP 5850 inkjet has been idle for about four years. I downloaded the drivers for it tonight and attempted a test print and received no response from the unit. Any ideas what could be wrong?

If the printer appears to print but there is no print or images on the paper then most likely the cause is the print head nozzles are blocked with dried ink and inserting new ink cartridges won't fix this problem. You need a new print head.
Print heads are not cheap, you may be better putting your money towards a new printer.

Hi I was given an hp 5850 desktop printer with no startup disc for it.I have windows xp how can I get it to work with my computer without having to pay in order for it to work together I have the cable and...

That is all you need to start printing. You do not need to pay further as you can download the required drivers for free from HP website.

The following link will take you to HP support website where you can download the XP 32 bit driver.

HP Deskjet 5850 Full Feature Software and Driver
(27 MB)

Just download the file and double click to run it. During installation it will ask you to connect the printer, do that and it will complete and let you print.

In addition to above I recommend you bookmark the following link in case you need to search for drivers and support material in future.

Bi-Amping my speakers with HTR-5850

You can at a minimum, bi-wire your speakers by wiring the speakers with the A and B speaker outputs. The A speaker outputs end up running the tweeters and the B will end up powering the woofers.
