I have an excellent connection and everything is hooked up right but no internet

  • Anonymous Sep 30, 2008

I have the same problem and don't live in the United States.

I bought a Linksys WRT54GS in Miami and brought it to Venezuela. I've been using an Aztech Starbridge 305 EU provided by cantv, which is my ISP, and it has been working fine (i reset it as a router) for many years.

I installed the WRT54GS as explained by Linksys and could not connect to the internet. I thought it might have something to do with the starbridge being in router mode so I reset the Starbridge back to Bridge Mode. Nothing happened.

I've tried everything and I haven't been able to have access to Internet with my wired desktop or my wireless laptop. The WRT54GS does not get an IP from the Starbridge.

Finally, I connected the cable from the Starbridge to LAN Port 1 on the Linksys and another cable from LAN Port 2 on the Linksys to my desktop's ethernet card.

Now I can access Internet on both my desktop (wired) and my laptop (wireless) but, I have no LAN.

I think that this must be a configuration problem but, when I called my ISP support team they told me they could not help with LAN problems and would not give any ideas. The only thing they would tell me is that they use DHCP.

If anyone can help, please, it would be very difficult for me to go back to Miami and have the wireless router exchanged and I don't sincerely beleive this is hardware problem.

    Thank you

My PC/internet connection was working fine. But today I tried to get on and my Linksys tells me I am connected to the access point but the internet can't be found. I have checked to make sure everything is connected/plugged in. What do I do? Thanks

This is not a solution it is a request for information please do not rate this (yet anyway). The answers provided below may generate more questions. If you want me to help we are a team attempting to solve this issue. You are the hands and eyes of this team and only what you communicate here and do based on instructions will assist me in applying that information to an acceptable solution for you.

To connect a router to the internet you must configure it according to your internet security providers (ISPs) requirements where they permit such connections.

Can you provide a link to your ISP's support or help website?

If not can you provide the name of your ISP and the geographic area your service is located in (such as city and state assuming as your profile indicates you are in the US)?

Can you confirm your router's manufacturer and model as Linksys WRT54GS?

Can you look on the bottom probably on a label and find a Version number for your router and report it here?

Do you have a computer with a wired ethernet connection to test the internet connection before attempting to utilize the wireless capabilities of your router? Are you willing to do so to provide feedback to me as to the success of the router's internet configuration?

Please indicate if you you want to discuss securing the wireless connection? (This may be a wise decision if you do not want your neighbors using your internet connection and/or accessing your computers publicly shared folders, if you have any -- this is especially important if you do not intend to use the wireless capabilities for all the previous reasons.)

To do this you will need to provide the manufacturer and model
of each the Wireless Adapter or the computer with a built-in
wireless adapter you want to connect to your network?

Upon receiving that information we can discuss the options to secure the wireless connections to your system. These will allow you to make decisions on options as to what you are willing to do and maintain to secure your internet connection.
