Samsung 46 clicks takes 45 sec for picture

Samsung 46'' LNT4661F 20 months old. Last few days when tunring on it makes several clicking sounds & today it took 45 seconds for the picture to appear. The TV is under warranty till Jan 30 2012. What's the problem, is it the power supply?

  • Anonymous Sep 08, 2009

Hi, I was in contact with the tech that will fix it. I told him what was happeneing & he said he's been working at this for 29 years. This company does most of the warranty work for the area I live in & has for many years. He said it was the power supply & the warranty company game him authorisation to fix it.

Sounds like he should be here with the part(s) by Friday to fix it.

    Thanks!

The technician is bringing a new power supply & the warranty company was very quick to authorize it. I told him it makes a clicking sound when turned on..like it's turning off/on & then after up to a minute later it comes on with picture & sound.

Hopefully this will do the trick.

Will let you know how it goes & thanks for the help too!

Hi my name is Eric,
I hope I can help you with your issue ,
The TV not starting properly you should hear the tone noise (bleep bleep) not a ticking noise or no sound .
Great that its under warranty
These Samsung LCDs have problems with the power supply capacitors going bad, a servicer will charge between $200 and $450 to repair it replacing either the capacitors or the whole board.
here is a DIY (do it yourself) solution:
It could be just a few bad capacitors on the power supply, if you want to attempt the repair yourself you can do a visual of the power board caps will appear swollen on to.
We do not recommend do it yourself, but depending on your knowledge and technical ability you may be able to.
with the back removed you will usually see two circuit boards the upper one is the power supply, it has a few capacitors on it (cylindrical standing straight up soldered in mark on the sides with the positive/negative sides and MF and Volts values)
Samsung uses mostly 1000Mfd at 16Volts rating capacitors, they cost about $1 each (680mfd will also work fine)
usually I replace about four of them (or all the bulged on top ones) .
The power board and back unscrew with a medium philips screwdriver, if you do not know how to desolder and resolder then do not attempt this as you may damage the TV more than fix it.
Im am posting a photo of some swollen caps on a board so you know what they look like;

best of luck to you
Hope this helps, if it has solved your issue please click accept
But if you have more questions please respond and I will reply asap
Thanks
Eric

I wrote up a tutorial on how to replace the capacitors if anyone else has this same issue (I just had it happen to me within the past few weeks). I have included photos for each step along with instructions.
Hope it is helpful: http://redpushpin.blogspot.com/2011/08/repairing-samsung-lcd-tv-with-clicking.html

1. the motherboard might be bad and you will need to replace it. 2. or The power supply is bad
Chances are if its making clicks the power supply is bad and you will need to replace it. Which makes sense because constantly powering the tv on and off will damage the power supply or possibly short out your motherboard. These things usually cost about 200 bucks to fix at a local tv repair store.

My Samsung 46 LCD clicks on and off and will not come on.

Hello,

First check the warranty, some Samsung units have 3 year warranty. If the unit is not covered under warranty then you will need to either repair or place the power supply board. If you want to do the repair yourself then go to our web site at:
www.ccl-la.com/capacitors.htm and look over the pictures and information. Then open your TV and get to the power supply board, after unplugging the unit. Look for the parts called capacitors that are bulging like the pictures on our site. You will need to unsolder and replace them, then your TV should be back alive again. The values that you will need to get are going to be marked on the sides of the ones you take out. Our page will have details about this. If you don't want to do the repair yourself we do offer a repair service for $45 plus shipping. Contact us at [email protected] for more information.

A black image appears and goes away every once in awhile. you can still see the picture but the part that has dark image looks all ugly.

When you have video display problems such as shadows and lines that go away after warming up, or come and go during viewing, it is usually the LVDS cable and T CONN board going bad. The screen can have one of the following or combinations of blurs, different layers of brightness and lines. It could be the backlight but most of the problems with the LNT4661F have been this.

I had the shadow and line problem and replaced both the cable and board for $120 and that fixed my problem. The TV was only 18 months old. Since I had the TV apart, I went ahead and replaced the capacitors on the power supply board so I wouldn’t run into the clicking problem that also affects this model TV. You can find the parts numbers for the LNT4661F cable and board below. You can find links to YouTube ( Part 1 & 2) to show how to replace the capacitors. Good luck.
