1. the motherboard might be bad and you will need to replace it.
2. or The power supply is bad
Chances are if its making clicks the power supply is bad and you will need to replace it. Which makes sense because constantly powering the tv on and off will damage the power supply or possibly short out your motherboard. These things usually cost about 200 bucks to fix at a local tv repair store.
Thanks for your insights. I'll get it checked out. Do these symptoms (pixelation developing into vertical rainbow lines) clearly point to the motherboard, or are there several parts in lcd displays that would be expected to give similar symptoms? I'll consider myself lucky if the repair turns out to be 200 bucks. :)
The rainbow lines are probably a separate issue and most likely a problem on the motherboard, sometimes it could be a loose connection in one of the motherboard wires or it could be that the actual motherboard is going bad, either way, more than likely if you replace the motherboard it should fix both of your problems. But I would have the tech guy make sure that he does not charge you or put a new power supply when you dont need one, some techs will tell you its both and charge you for both with its only one or the other, sometimes it could be both but you need to show him you've done your research so you dont get overcharged.
Did this resolve the issue with the TV? Can you tell me if these parts are something I can get myself and replace? (I'm comfortable with soldering) Where would I get them?
