It could be bad shielding on cables. It could be close proximity to electrical interference. It could even be next doors fridge. If it is steadily getting worse, it is likely to be failing capacitors inside.
It could be as simple as a warped fan blade, or an impending compressor failure. Since the fridge is working well, it would be _worth_ having a tech look at it. Fixing it now (before it fails) could save you the cost of a new fridge. Worst case scenario... You pay the man for his time to tell you the compressor is doomed. (Ask what their minimum charge for diagnosis is, before selecting a repair tech).
Have you had the noise before or did it just start?
Try to isolate where the noise is coming from. From under the fridge? On the back wall of the freezer side? If those two, could possibly be one of the fans.
This sounds like the compressor is not healthy. The moving parts inside the compressor have become "tight" causing too much friction in the moving parts which you hear as a humming sound. This will gradually get worse untill the compressor completely fails.
A new compressor plus associated parts and labour will probably cost $550. It may be worth looking for a new fridge?
its just likley to be a shelf or the rad on the back thats humming, if its a shelf its likley to be just tuching the inside of the door if its the rad on the back stuff a rolled up news paper under it jamed between the rad and the rear of the fridge that shuts them up realy good too!
make sure it is level. the compressor is designed to run on level ground. also check the fans. if the fan is bad or the bearings are shot, it'll vibrate and make a loud humming noise. find out where the noise is loudest. if it's under the fridge, it's the compressor. if it's inside the freezer, it's the fan.
check and see if compressor is running it is in the rear behind the cardboard cover if it is super hot then you need to get a tech out to look at it and it may still be under warranty
if you have ice buildup then the fridge may be low on freon. or there is dust clogging around the pump or fan is not running. remove the bottom or back and look around the compressor. see that the fan is running.
