The first thing to do if you already haven't is replace the filter,it's in the grill/kickplate below the freezer door. If you have relpaced filter, need to pull refrig from wall and check that their is good water pressure from house plumbing,if it is good the water valve the sends water to icemaker&door dispenser when water is called for is going to be the problem. The part # for that valve is 4389177 it could be purchased at your local appliance parts store on oline at; searspartsdirect.com apdepot.com repairclinic.com assuredparts.com
The filter BUT NOT the water valve could be purchased locally at Sears,Lowe's or Home Depot
I hope this helps you to diagnose your icemaker/dispenser Gene
I think our water will dispense but our tab(arm) came off track and we don't know how to put it back on. Our icemaker works fine but can't see how the arm should be on. Let me know if you have any advice. Thanks, Shelby ~ Ohio
Could not locate your model number. However, Check fill tube for icemaker inside the freezer. Iced solid? replace water valve. No ice in fill tube? Get correct model number and resubmit your request.
I had a Whirlpool Model GD5SHAXNS in which the icemaker quit working about the same time (3 years old). I had water out the dispenser, I found that it was the icemaker itself failed not calling for water to fill it. I replaced it with a icemaker on-line for about $100 and problem fixed. I have been told his is a common problem with the icemaker in this model ref.
Your unit has infered sensors on the frezzer left and right walls. There is a diagnostic test sheet brown in color in your kick plate. All you have to do is open frezzer door look on the right sensor it should blink twice followed by a 1-2 sec delay,if that is good press in flapper door on right sensor do not block path of infered beam you will not see a beam its invisable.Once you hold in flapper on right sensor the led should be solid. If solid optics are good if not solid led replace optic sensors
If there are ice cubes setting in the icemake waiting to be dumped then the icemaker is bad. If the icemake is dry then the water valve is bad. You have one water valve with two solenoids. One works water in the door and the other sends water to the icemaker.
