If you are in the US, there is no logical reason to go back to UHF/VHF as there are no broadcasting stations using the analog frequencies anymore. Those old tuners will not decode anything that is coming over the airwaves. Thus their channel scans will not detect ant channels, making you think there is something wrong. You would need one of the digital converter boxes sold during the transition period and then you will only get your local channels, much as you would have before.

Brand new, connected to new cox cable box, video works great but no sound

if just running HDMI cable try adding audio cables too, check all your volume and mute settings in the system setup.
If you have audio on most channels, but have silence on some or all of your local network channels, you may have the Secondary Audio Programming (SAP) turned ON. Complete the following steps to turn off SAP.
  1. Press the Settings or MENU button on the digital remote.

    Result: The Settings screen displays.
  2. Choose from the following options.
If... Then... Disable SAPdisplays Press the Select button. Choose SAP Languagedisplays Use the left or right arrow buttons to choose the English setting and press Select. PREFERENCESdisplays Scroll to the Language option, select Audio, then select the option labeled Primary or the one labeled English. If the above quick fix doesn't work, there may be a problem with MTS, Stereo, or another SAP issue. Try the following:
  • Verify in the program listing guide that the program has MTS, Stereo, or SAP features.
  • Check to see if the MTS, STEREO or SAP light on the TV or VCR is on.
If the light is not on, try the following:
  • Push the MTS, STEREO, or SAP button on the TV or VCR.
  • Adjust the fine tuning on the TV set to restore the stereo or SAP.

We bought a universal remote to increase our access to cable channels. Some of the channels display the symbols S.A.P. and have no volume. How do we disable the S.A.P so we can hear the volume.?

S.A.P. Means Secondary Audio Program.

SAP, Mono, Stereo, Etc. You should be able to switch this from your remote. Even universal remotes should have this button to adjust sounds. Otherwise you need to go into the TV menu (not the remote) and change it from there. The only way you can change it on those channels is to switch manually. Happens a lot on these older TVs. No worries. Very common.

On many sets, the audio channel can be switched by remote control or through a SAP switch located around the tuning panel or "on screen programming." Usually, there is a setting labeled SAP, AUDIO SELECT, B-AUDIO, MTS, or MENU. By changing the setting, you should be able to select SAP. Not all TV sets are alike, so you might want to check your instruction manual for all the details.

How do I get my rca truflat tv to get out of mono?

Hello
Press the MTS on the remote control handset to select STEREO, MONO or SAP. All the options will be available only when the current TV channel is broadcasting that option. Channels will not always carry programes, that have all MTS options. If "STEREO" appears on the screen when you select a channel means stereo sound is available with current programme. You can hear sound from both speakers. If broadcast is not strong and clear, stereo sound will not be available. Press "MTS" button to change it to "Mono". This will eliminate the noise. If "MONO" appears on the screen when you select a channel, stereo effect will not be availabe, even though you have set it to stereo. If "SAP" appears when you select a channel 'Second Audio Programe' [SAP] broadcasting is available for that programme. Press the "MTS" button to 'SAP' and you can hear that programe in different language or some other kind of audio.

No sound on some channels, other channels fine

Your SAP/MTS function is most likely turned on. This feature has 3 modes: Stereo, Mono and SAP. Stereo and Mono are easy to understand, it's the SAP that can get you. SAP stands for Second Audio Production. It is used to provide weather, information or an additional language translation of a program. Some broadcasters simply transmit the mono audio over the SAP audio channel when the are not using it for other purposes. Other broadcasters simply do not use it, which does not give you any audio. Look on your remote for a SAP or MTS button. If you do not see one, look in your TV user menu for this feature. If you are using a cable box, look in the audio menu of the cable box. You are looking for something set to SAP... just change it to STEREO. I hope this was helpful.

How do i program cable channel in to my 27" tv ,,only has local channels 2-13 when we use auto program, no other stations lock in to the tv....SAP in left hand corner 27" glass screen flat

You have to make sure the TV is set to cable not air. Will not look for upper programs unless it is set to cable. SAP needs to be off in the setup menu unless you want it on. Secondary Audio Program(SAP) is for foreign languages.

Have a JVC42X788 model tv. TV receives signal through basic cable. On channel 29 which is the Lifetime channel the audio is in Spanish, except for the commercials which are in English. Any idea what is...

You might want to go into the audio setup or tuning setup for the tv and make sure it's on ummm, stereo, I think, but definitely make sure it's not on SAP (see if you can find SAP somewhere in the audio/tuning setup and change it). SAP stands for Secondary Audio Program.... most stations don't use this feature, but some will put out an alternate audio signal on this for whatever reason (like another language). Hope this helps!

With your remote, go into the menu, find the audio setup and click off the SAP. Thats the Second Audio Program. Some Broadcasters send a second lanquage along with the regular audio. Someone must have been looking around or playing with the remote and turned on the SAP.. Good Luck PS please do not forget to rate this thread
