How do I switch off the microphone to stop the speakers feeding back on my laptop. And how to set the levels when I am recording, to stop feedback.
I am trying to record an audio online via a microphone headset but there is feedback through the speakers. Same when I try to record directly into the laptop without the headset. I've tweaked the sound settings but can't seem to be able to stop the feedback. There must be a way to disable the microphone to have the speakers working. And to be able to record into the microphone without it feeding back & screeching! I've only had the machine for a month, so not familiar with it.

I think it won't be possible to get rid of the feedback and quality will be poor when recording this way. Try software like Audacity and set the audio source to record directly from the sound card. The input device should be set to "Windows WASAPI" for Windows and output set to a loopback device. How to Record the Sound Coming From Your PC Even Without Stereo Mix

Hi Steven
Feedback is caused by the Microphone being too close to the Output speaker.
Feeding Back.... output to input.
Cover the microphone to see if it stops.
Echo may be something else...
If you right click on the speaker icon near the clock and select recording devices and then select the icon for the microphone that you have and select properties, then go to the tab that says levels. Change the BOOST setting to 0
To avoid feeback whilst recording, make sure all speakers and monitors are turned off while you record. Otherwise the microphone will pick up both the sound of your voice from your mouth as well as the sound of your voice coming out of the speakers, causing an endless loop of nasty feedback! So just make sure speakers (incl. computer speakers if those are what you are using to listen) are muted whilst recording!
If you are using the microphone at the same time then feedback is a problem iff the speakers or microphone levels are set too high. That is all I can suggest as you don't comment on what you are doing at the time of the feedback.
When the box with all the sliders opens up click on OPTIONS (top left) Click PROERTIES Tick RECORDING then clck OK
The slider box will swap to the RECORDING slider box Select the one you want to use as the recording SOURCE and put a tick in the box at the bottom.
NOW check that you dont have the microphone level turned too far up !
done it myself before now
Now click OPTIONS once again Then PROPERTIES Now tick PLAYBACK and then OK
You should now be back in the normal playback slider box Whilst you were in the properties for either recordeing or playback you may have noticed a list of devices to show them as sliders tick them
You need to reduce the level of the microphone so that is not so loud. Feedback can be controlled by equalizer adjustments and speaker positioning. Did the sub get blown out?
in order to hear sound on the microphone you need to check the Mixer settings as the default setting for microphone (for playback) is mute as you would get some horrible feedback..
double click on the speaker icon in the bottom left and chose properties from the options menu you may (or may not) have the option to select microphone for playback, however there should be a setting for recording which should give you a slider to set the recording levels for the microphone, use sound recorder or other recording software to test microphone is working
The speakers are not hooked up correctly. I don't know if you still have the instructions but it is a hardware problem and not software. Try to figure out how to hook them up correctly.
Obviously it will make feedback. Microphone should be put on mute. Putting microphone on mute will not stop it working for recording sound or talking on voice chat. All you need to do is double click on speaker icon on system tray check the mute box of the Mic channel.
