How to shut down your laptop when it is stuck in restarting mode

Sleep or standby mode should allow your computer to conserve energy yet respond quickly to power back on when you need it. Most Toshiba laptops should exit sleep mode if you press a key on the keyboard or use the trackpad mouse. If the lid was closed, opening it should also wake up the computer. If none of these methods work to bring the computer out of sleep mode, you may have a power issue or software glitch. If the error recurs, start the computer in "Safe Mode" to see if a program running on your computer outside of the basic Windows operating system is causing the problem.

you have sleepsettings set to start button, set it to shut down.

First make sure your fan is operating on your processor it takes about 3 mins for it to over heat and stop and shut itself down for safety to prevent burning up the processor.if its not this read on.
Also when you boot into safe mode then do a system restore to a date before the problem started. But first in safe mode run your antivirus scan to find something that is missed while being hid behind the operating system while functioning. Stay away from Emachines in the future. Pay another $100 and get a real computer.
1. check that nothing is in the CD-Rom drive and restart the computer.
2.Shut down the computer. Unplug the AC power. Remove the battery pack. Wait 2 minutes or until machine cools.
try powering on comp on battery alone, then try with AC power alone.

try going to safe mode first... upon turning on your laptop, continuously press/ hit F8 key until it gives you options then select safe mode... after you're able to log into safe mode you can try and run a scandisk check or try to restart the computer to see if it would work in normal mode...

Your are not "shutting down" the laptop. It is going into "Stand-by" mode.

#1:
When you want to shut down,
select [Start]
then select "Shut down" and not "Stand-by"

The power button will also work.
#2:
When you want to shut down,
Press the power button and nothing else.
The laptop will log you OFF and "shut down"

Probabpy an XP problem, start XP in safe mode (press F8) as it is loading.
If it runs then it is probably a driver problem. Try restarting in the last good configuration. Keep posting until the problem is resolved.

If u can, try to reformat it, reason i say this simple solution is because u already had the laptop looked at professionally, and due to you're laptop being stuck at the windows screen, i see this happen on HDD swaps a lot. The HDD needs to be repair-formatted or fully reformatted to talk to the new mobo when switched out, try this if all else fails, i personally think giving this simple solution may fix the boot up issue, but do make sure ur friend who looked at your laptop hadn't reset ur C MOS and may of not reconfigured it, this may also be the main cause of boot up troubles so make sure everything looks fine in ur BIOS. Gabriel will have a more proper solution than this but i believe by doing this it may help u bypass ur loading issue

When you turn the laptop on hit f8 until the menu comes up, try use the last good known configuration. If that does not work tap f8 goto safe mode and then to system restore and restore it to an earlier time. Let me know if it works.
