Whirlpool fridge

Bad wiring or faulty sensor would cause the relay to be activated and tell the solonoid to open whenever it likes. I would replace the door switch or see if it is sticking otherwise you may be looking at control board problems

My s21s4d fridge ice maker doesnt work, everything else is ok. the motor on the ice m/c doesnt seem to reset itself. how do i fix it.

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

This appears to be a Whirlpool side by side unit. Commercial Code 858618353010 / Model S21S4D. If I got the brand incorrect please respond with your brand name.
I do not know your geographic location. I am assuming you are outside of the US.

There are a couple of troubleshooting links I will post here. Keep in mind that they are for US units but the only difference will be the operating voltage:
http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=12&newsdesk_id=34 This is for the BASIC ice maker without optics.

And Job Aid R-92 (With optics)
http://adcxns1.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/8527f904cc8ea8cd85256b5800672333/$FILE/4322658A.pdf
Note there are 2 different optics for these. Pre and post 2002. You will have to determine which one you have. The troubleshooting steps require that you TAPE the door / light switch in the depressed position. Ensure you read all of the set up steps.

Often ice makers stop cycling because the ice maker thermostat never reaches 14 - 16 Deg. F due to a problem with automatic defrosting. Ice builds up on the evaporator coils and air-flow in the freezer gets restricted. It will still freeze but won't make ice until the ice build up is excessive.

If you think you may have an automatic defrosting problem do a MANUAL defrost with an external fan by turning the unit off, removing the freezer contents and directing an external fan into the freezer compartment for just over 2 hours. (water mess so be ready)
While the fan is melting the ice in the freezer compartment... open the lower rear of the unit by removing the fiberboard cover and cleaning the condenser coils, condenser fan, the drip pan and the ver end of the compartment drain tube that terminates in the drip pan. Reinstall rear cover when complete.
After the 2 hours clean up the mess and return the unit to normal service. The unit should start making ice within 8 hours. It will operate normally for 2 days and then if the automatic defrost problem exists... ICEMAKER and freezer performance will degrade after 2 - 3 days.

Hopefully you have enough information now to troubleshoot your icemaker issue.
Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Whirlpool S21S4D Ice maker stopped working Now fridge stopped working Frezer OK Defrosted ice on condenser and fridge working for time being! Do you think its the mother board?

You have a defrost problem going on. Either the defrost timer, the defrost t-stat or the defrost heater. Remove the back freezer wall and you will see the evaporator coils. This is where the heater and t-stat are located. One of these is more than likely the problem.

Ice Maker is not working on my Whirlpool Gold Refrigerator

I removed six screws from the ice maker to pull it out of the refrigerator.  Their are four screws holding the ice maker in place and two screws on the ice maker door.  Had problems getting the electrical harness disconnected.  Used hot water to removed the ice cubes that were struck in the ice tray.  Poured all remaining water into a bucket and re-installed ice maker.  As of now, the ice maker is making ice !

Ice Maker- I am about to replace my 2nd Ice Maker

First Look at icemaker and see if fingers are sticking down in to mold with no water. Fingers should be slighlty above stripper plate (plastic piece mounted on ice maker that is closest to you)Also the fingers should rotate at all by hand. If its sticking down in the mold and the fingers move....it bad.
Then make sure the black rubber spout doesnt have ice inside (just squeeze it ......its rubber so you can feel if its iced up)
Yes, Whirlpool did have some issues with the Gears on the Motor module breaking also they have ice maker thermostat issues. I recommend a entire new updated In door Ice maker and you shouldnt have to worry about it again.
