Check your aerial connection.
Ifit is combined digital/analogue set put it back to digital, white screen used to indicate analogue reception. There is no analogue broadcasting here anymore, only digital. The option should be on your remote.

*It sounds like you are not getting a signal to your TV. Check the cable, if not that try checking the set top box, etc.
