How can I lock my Input Mode setting?

I have my cable box and Roku coming through my tv input to my Yamaha HTR-5450 receiver. However, every time I switch between the cable box to the Roky the Input switches from Auto (which allows the sound to play) to DTS to Analog. Sound for the TV only playes when the Input is on Auto. Is there a code or switch I can set that lock the Yamaha HTR-5450 receiver on Auto only?

SOURCE: different sound levels dvd and cable hdtv yamaha htr-6130

Well, first of all, the method you are using is the lowest quality. You should upgrade to a toslink(digital optical cable) or a digital RCA cable. The toslink is the best all around. But it is normal for some devices to have higher sound output than others.

SOURCE: Yamaha HTR-6230 receiver set up w/HDMI no sound

BD and DVR hooked up to the receiver and from the receiver to the TV right? If yes: Your receiver set to pass sound trough to the TV, if you want sound from the home theater setting has to be changed.

Panasonic TV, TC-P50S2.Yamaha DVD Player DV-C6280.Yamaha Receiver HTR-5450.DVD audio working fine thru receiver. Not sure where to place white/yellow cords to get video feed.

Hello. Usually when you mention white and yellow, there should be a red also, the red and white are right and left audio and the yellow is the video. The audio should be connected to the receiver, and if the receiver has video inputs and outputs, that should be connected to the same receiver input as well, but if the receiver doesn't have video capability, the yellow should be connected to the TV video input. I hope that helps.

I have a Yamaha HTR 5450 and tried to hook a blu ray player to it. Only choice I had was the Yellow RCA video and red and white for sound. Could not get video to work but could get sound. My older DVD...

Why is it so important to have BluRay audio on an old TV? Or its video into the Receiver?

What purposes are served with unnecessary 'hops' through electronics that can't use it or improve it?

Get the digitsl audio from the BluRay into the HTR and give the TV the best it can accept for video. Your TV probably has a mid-fi RCA audio input, too. The BlurRay has an output for that, too, if you realy want it.

No picture with Yamaha 6130 reciever. have

The TV must be tuned to the correct input also. Please cycle through the tv inputs by pressing the input button on the tv one time, then wait 5 to 10 seconds for the tv to recognize the input signal. If nothing, press again. You don't say which tv you have but many newer models have 5 to 7 input sources you will have to cycle through to find your signal.

With out more information, this is just one step in finding out what could be wrong. Please rank me accordingly.

Good luck.

No sound when connecting optical cable from set top box to #4 optical input for cable tv on rear. The cable only works from the front input or the dvd input on the rear but that limits my sound fields. I...

Make sure your "Input Select" "Audio" portion of the main menu is set to "Auto" you may have it in analog thus only allowing audio from the front analog input. Also check your digital input select option as well. you may have it assigned to another source input. Go into the main menu of the receiver and you will find all the settings. Hope this helps. If you still have issues, post a comment and I can help you troubleshoot further.

Stereo Set up

The physical TV is at best a lo-fi 2-channel analog audio device. Think about it this way: Most high-end users use video monitors (no audio or speakers on board). So where does the TV-related audio come from....

It comes from the same place the TV would get it - cable, satellite, dvd, blu-ray, vcr...

So why run audio from any of those sources to the TV and back to the receiver (whose specialty is
multi-channel sound)?

I imagine your cable or satellite box has Digital and Analog Audio Outputs. The receiver needs a digital input for anything multi-channel. Select the highest-quality one that's compatible with your HTR and use it for the audio feed.

You have one coaxial and one optical digital input. I imagine your (unnamed) DVD player has one or both types and your cable box has one or both types. If you have one of each type you're golden. Run each to its compatible input on the HTR.

If they're both optical, you have to make a choice, but if they're both coaxial only you could get away with using an RCA Y-cable to bring them both in to the one input. Then for each to work you would have to make sure the other device is turned off.

The video capabilities of this unit are limited to Composite (single RCA cable). Run one from the DVD and one from the cable box Video Out to the conveniently labeled inputs that match them.

I have no idea what your TV/Monitor has for inputs. If possible run the absolute highest quality video [HDMI, Component (3 RCA cables) or Composite (single RCA cable)] to the TV's inputs along with an RCA pair from DVD and Cable Ananlog Audio Out to the corresponding Audio In's on the TV. This way you can watch and hear TV from its own speakers without needing the Yamaha fired up.

No Audio Coming Through On HDMI DTV/Cable INPUT

The HTR-6130 cannot decode HDMI audio. It can only act as an HDMI switch. To get the audio from the cable box to be output from the HTR-6130, you will need a separate audio connection (e.g. RCA cable).

Playstation 3 audio connection into Yamaha HTR-6040 AV Receiver

Is Yamaha HTR-640 a receiver? Try HDMI from PS3 to receiver or Sony HDTV. If HDMI from PS3 to receiver the you need and HDMI from receiver to out Sony HDTV. You could connect everything to receiver and HDMI out to HDTV. You can not have an HDMI cable AND an optical cable coming out of the PS3, only one or the other.
