Question about Yamaha RX-V463 Receiver
I have a Yamaha HTR-6230 receiver set up w/HDMI from blu-ray player and DVR. The volume only comes from the TV (samsung) when in DVD or DVR mode. Video is great, but the audio is from TV only. When in the tuner mode, FM radio plays great through the surround, but when I go back to the DVD it only plays from the TV speakers. TV is also hooked to the reciever w/HDMI. Any solutions out there?
I also had this problem. you need to call Yamaha Tech Support (in your country) and explain to the consultant that you need to set up your receiver to decode the Audio from the HDMI input (so it will play the sound from the HDMI cable). Yamaha Australia said that this function is not described in the book and also said its a stupid mistake on Yamaha's Manual. So just give them a call and they will fix it for you. It WORKED for me :D

Satavlad is correct in his update, it's just ridiculous the Yamaha would sell receivers that cannot output sound coming in over HDMI. but it's true...

I figured out this problem a few months ago. i don't even know if you'll ever check this again. but,
the reason why it doesn't play is sound is bc... your dvd and dvr mode is probably hooked up via hdmi... if you check your box it doesn't have the audio part of hdmi... its just video.
#2 i had a hell of a time figuring out why didnt it work just pluggin in certain things.
bc hdmi only works via the optical cables. but you'd have to plug it in via just the component cables.
funny part is most systems plugs when hdmi is plugged in the optical plugs are turned off. (go figure)
#3 remember w/ this system... things plugged into components, only works via component output. composite w/ composite and the optical only works w/ optical... and so forth.
so that means that you can't connect your component dvd player to your reciever and have it output to your HDMI tv... you would need to plug component plugs from the reciever to tv.

I found the same issues and the same little notation in the manual. I have a cable box hooked up to the DTR/Cable inputes, (HDMI and Optical Audio) to recieve the sound and Picture. For the DVD audio I again used the the only other optical audio input and the went into the settings and changed it's inpute to DVD, that along with the only other HDMI filled got me sound and picture for both of my componets.
I aslo find that the Yamaha HTR-6230 has substandard surround sound. I will be replacing this.
