Well, I'm closer anyway. I could still use some more help though. Your info helped but not the way you would think. The speaker selector for both a and b were on (but I only have speakers in a right now). But when the 6 ch input is off I hear nothing. When it is on I can barely hear the audio but it is there.

Any other ideas? Is there something to do with the surround sound style I'm using or something? I have a yamaha remote model htr-5450 if that helps at all also.

Thanks again. If you can help it would be much appreciated. I'm pretty frustrated right now.

Check the "speaker selector" on the front panel. Make sure A, B, or both are lit up. Also, make sure the "6 ch input" is"off" it's a button right below the volume knob on the right If it's still not working, post a comment and I'll help you troubleshoot further. Hope this helps

Sorry Michael, you have a problem in the audio amp section of the receiver and unless you know how to troubleshoot solid state electronics, you will need to have this unit serviced by a pro. Good Luck

When watching cable tv we are not getting any sound from the speakers. We do get sound from all the speakers when watching a dvd or listen to the stereo. I have a Yamaha HTR 5660 receiver. All the cables...

Your best bet is to hook all your video components directly to TV, using your TV's menu to choose what you want to watch, and then hooking reciever to TV via digital optical out from TV to digital optical in on reciever. From what I read, your reciever has 6 digital optical inputs. Anyway, try running, at least, your cable box to TV, best by HDMI, the run digital optical out to reciever. Make sure you go throught he recievers menu to make sure you have he right channel selected for audio.

I have a Yamaha HTR 5450 and tried to hook a blu ray player to it. Only choice I had was the Yellow RCA video and red and white for sound. Could not get video to work but could get sound. My older DVD...

Why is it so important to have BluRay audio on an old TV? Or its video into the Receiver?

What purposes are served with unnecessary 'hops' through electronics that can't use it or improve it?

Get the digitsl audio from the BluRay into the HTR and give the TV the best it can accept for video. Your TV probably has a mid-fi RCA audio input, too. The BlurRay has an output for that, too, if you realy want it.

How is TV sound coming into your Yamaha? If it's from the TV analog audio then maybe the TV's audio output is muted.

If it's from the Cable Box maybe ITs audio is muted. I'd refer to the guide for the Cable Box.

MUTE on the receiver is not source-specific.
