After turning my Airplane mode off last night to download a new book, my screen went blank (white) and remains that way 12 hours later. I can still turn the device on and off but when I turn it on I just get a blank white screen. How can I have this fixed?

Make sure it is not in airplane mode
  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to show Quick Settings, and then tap Wireless.
  2. Verify that Airplane Mode is Off.
  3. Next to Wi-Fi, tap On.

How do I retrieve my Kindle ebooks from the cloud? I reset my Kindle, device saved it in the cloud.

To download books you want locally saved on your Kindle all you have to do is turn OFF airplane mode, connect to a Wi-Fi router using a password or connect to the Whispernet 3G if your Kindle has that and then touch *cloud* on the Homescreen where a list of all the books on your Kindle library (cloud) will be displayed. Simply touch the book or books you want to download and they will start downloading. They download pretty fast.

If you don't have a touch screen Kindle just select options or books using the button rather than touching them.

Books I ordered have not been downloaded--what happened?

Books you buy should be listed in your Amazon Kindle library.
Check it using a laptop or desktop.

If they aren't listed there then something went wrong with your order.

If they are listed in your Kindle library, you need to turn on your Kindle and connect it to wi-fi or 3G. Your Kindle should then automatically download the new books. If it doesn't, touch Settings and select *Sync and check for new items*. Make sure the Kindle you want to download the books to is listed as your default Kindle if you have more than one so new books will automatically download to it once it's connected.

From the home wage swipe down with finger from the top of your kindle then select "wireless." You will see airplane mode on/off on the right. Select the option you want.

Can I read a book on my Verizon Nexus 7 without connecting to wifi (and incurring charges?)

You can download ebooks to your tablet for reading offline. But the data rates for downloading the books still apply unless connected to wifi. Free Wifi is available at most fast food stores, libraries, and hotels. You can use these places to connect and download ebooks then read them at home.
It is also a good idea to turn on airplane mode whenever you do not want your device to use data as other applications (System updates, facebook, amazon apps, etc) will also use data even when they are not open on your screen, many will continue to run in the background.
