The owner's manual says:

Cavity light: The cavity light bulb is located behind the vent
grille at the top front of the microwave oven, under the bulb
cover, and is replaceable. Remove two screws on the vent
grille, tilt the grille forward, and lift it out. Open bulb cover and
replace bulb. Close bulb cover, replace vent grille, and secure
with screws.

Cooktop light: The cooktop light bulb is located on the
underside of the microwave oven, and is replaceable. Remove
bulb cover screw, and open the bulb cover. Replace bulb,
close bulb cover, and secure with screw.

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand that you want to know how to remove the cover on your Frigidaire microwave, model# FGMV205K. There are two different covers that you are able to remove for access to two different light bulbs.

If you are trying to change the Microwave Oven Light for inside your microwave:

1)To replace light bulb, first disconnect power to your microwave oven at the circuit breaker panel or by unplugging it.

2)Remove the louver by removing the three Hood Louver Screws.

3)Push in the upper tabs and pull the louver away from your appliance.

4)Remove the light bulb and replace with a new 20 watt light bulb. DO NOT USE BULB LARGER THAN 20 WATTS.

5)Close the Oven Light Cover by carefully pushing into place. Push the louver back into place (engaging both the bottom and top tabs) and change to hood Louver Screws.


If you are trying to change the light bulbs underneath your Microwave:


1)To replace light bulbs, first disconnect power to your microwave oven at the circuit breaker panel or by unplugging it.

2)To open Light Cover, remove the screw on the light cover.

3)Replace the light bulbs with new 20 watt light bulbs. DO NOT USE BULBS LARGER THAN 20 WATTS.

4)Close the Light Cover and secure with screw removed at step 2.

I don't know your model but where the light previously was coming through a lens either remove the lens and replace the bulb or remove a square panel just opposite it on the side of the microwave to replace the bulb.

Some have a plate on the interior of the oven that can be removed for easy bulb replacement but if yours does not you will have to remove the entire outer covering to access the bulb. If you have a combination microwave/Range vent you will have to remove the entire unit from the cabinet, then remove the outer cover, replace the bulb and re-install the combination unit.

Ensure the microwave is un-plugged.
The procedure differs depending on the microwave.
Some microwaves will have a glass panel covering the bulb which can be unclipped or unscrewed from the inside of the oven or there may be an access panel on the outside. On other ovens the complete outer shell has to be removed to get at the bulb. Bulbs can normally be unscrewed but sometimes you need to push and twist anti-clockwise to remove.
When you have replaced the bulb, ensure that all panels and screws are replaced securely.

Hi. I just told you, there is no acces for the bulb in microwaves. Bulb replacement is not supposed to be a user level maintenance operation. You will need to remove the microwave outer cover to replace the bulb.

1) unplug unit and remove microwave cover (phillips on 3 sides)
2) unscrew white funnel shaped plastic part near back of control panel
3) remove specialty bulb and disconnect leads
4) look for T170 bulb replacement (eBay has them) or roll your own 25W bulb solution
