Tip & How-To about Jenn-Air JMC9158AAS Convection/Microwave Oven

How do I replace light bulb on my Jenn-Air microwave?

Hi.

You will need to partly disassemble the oven by removing the outer cover held by screws (the cover part 2 on the first diagram). once there you will see the bulb hand side, located on the right (the bulb is part 6 in second diagram).

Before disassemblying the appliance disconnect power, by tripping circuit breaker or unplugging the power cord.

Here the replacement part for the model JMC9158AAS, listed in title: PS391758 .
Diagrams below are also for Jenn-Air JMC9158AAS.

If you have a different model, use the links listed here: Where do I find parts and diagrams for my appliance?

Here the diagrams. Click on the pictures to enlarge.

Unless you are a technician or a trained DIYer, better ringing the number listed on the owners manual to call service support. A badly assembled microwave will be dangerous for your health. The capacitor inside the microwave can also release dangerous discharge, take care and observe safety prescriptions while disassembling.

Regards.

HOW CAN I replace the lamp

If there's no obvious removable cover over the bulb (most often on the rear or side) and the owner's manual doesn't address it, then disassembly will be required.

You'll need to remove the outer cover (wrapper) to get to the bulb.

Always unplug a microwave before removing or installing any bulbs.

If it's an over the range type, remove the vent grille across the top and see if bulbs can be accessed there. There may be a panel on the bottom covering the light(s), instead.

If not, chances are you'll have to remove it from the wall, then remove the outer cover. If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

Once it's out of the wall, the outer cover (wrapper) will need to be removed, just as you'll need to do on a counter top model.

On a counter top model, be sure it's unplugged, but otherwise ignore the instructions above this paragraph.

The screws you need to remove should be pretty obvious, but a special driver (such as a T20H type or GTXH20-100) may be needed.

Be sure to put all the screws back in the right holes, since some may be special grounding screws.

Bulbs can be had locally in most grocery stores, hardware stores, home improvement centers, and big box or department stores.
In some models, the bulb is not removable from its mount, instead a bulb assembly must be purchased.
Many models use halogen lamps. You must not touch halogen types with your bare skin, as the oils will shorten the bulb life.

It all depends on that all-important model number. So without that, we can only give a broad, generic answer.

The first step is to unplug the oven before changing bulbs!

I have a diagram at my site which helps you find & replace many GE cooktop and cavity light bulbs. It's at http://031d26d.namesecurehost.com/mwd/ge_lamp_replacement.jpg

Does anyone know how to replace the light inside the oven? not the light that shines down. The oven does not light when you use it. The GE manual does not seem to have any information on this or any of the parts diagrams seem to show the internal bulb. Thanks.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams for most brands by entering your full model number here.

Those diagrams should show if the screen is glued onto the glass, etc. If so, it makes it harder to clean.
