I have three of these, two were throw outs and one was given to me. They will start but will not run. They don't look like they have seen much use, one looks new. Seems to be a big problem with Homelite brand. I also have a Sthil trimmer that I bought new, it always starts and run, only problem I've had with it is that the on/off switch broke, but not much of a problem, when I'm done with it, set to choke and it kills. Homelite are junk, get a Sthil. But still (pun?) I'd hate to just throw them out, seems they need adjustments.

You need to disassemble the carb. and spray with carb. cleaner. If you need tips on how to do this, just let me know. You may need a new carb. kit as well, but we won't know that until you first perform the first step, or if the carb. parts are more than 3 years old. If they are, then go ahead and buy the carb. kit and replace the parts.

I resolved my problem by taking apart the carborator and cleaning it. There were clogged passaged that had stuff come out of them when I used airisol carb cleaner to blow them out. I only had to make one gasket the carb mount gasket which is pretty basic only 5 holes.
It ran for the next 3 hours, ran fantastic!!!!!!

Could be a dirty fuel filter or cracked fuel line. The filter is usually inside the tank. You should be able to take the cap off and turn the unit upside down and shake it so that the filter drops from the tank. If not then grab it with a pair of needle nose pliers. If changing the filter or replacing the lines doesn't work, the carburetor might need to be cleaned.

You have a few possibilities. Make sure you have good fresh gas in the tank. You're not getting enough gas, so choking helps get more gas than air, making it run better. Could be the carb diaphram (not very expensive if you replace yourself), when they get old they don't perform like they should. Could be the filter in the gas tank is bad, plugged. Also might be just an easy adjustment on the carb Low, and High speed screws. The choke has three positions, full choke, partial choke, and no choke, which means run position.
