First unplug your spark plug. Take off the engine shroud (cover) and expose the flywheel. Loosen your coil. Put a paper business card (roughly .10" "- .11") between the two legs of the coil and the magnetic spot on the flywheel. Let the magnet on the flywheel pull the coil to itself WITH the business card between. Make sure you get the card between both legs of the coil. Snug 'er down and rotate the flywheel to release the card. That's your clearance.

I imagine that it supposed to pull fuel from the tank or it will not run

Homelite Garden | Answered on Jul 02, 2018

Sounds like an engine running very lean. Check fuel supply. Make sure you have clean fresh fuel and a new fuel filter. If the carb sits on top of the fuel tank and "drinks" through a pick up tube, it may have an air leak in it. (Think cracked straw sipping a soda). Also be sure the bolts connecting the carb to the engine are snug. Leaaks around those gaskets will cause the same trouble.
