I have a samme55c monitor and want to lock the control buttons on the tv so no one can raise the volume, change the channel, etc., unless they have the remote control that came with the monitor. Is there a step-by-step guide for that?

two choices, get the keyboard on the set repaired or get an original sharp remote which among remotes is not too expensive.

The remotes have several device keys at the top of the remote. They have abbreviations like "VCR", "DVD", "TV", "CBL". By default some actions are locked into a specific key. By default, the volume buttons will always control the TV volume and the channel buttons will always change channels on a digital box.
If you have a digital box, and the channels wont change, the default locks might have been removed. Consult the instruction manual that came with the remote and re-lock the buttons to the correct device key. Otherwise you will need to press the "tv" button when trying to change volume and the "cbl" button when trying to change channels.
If you do NOT have a cable box and are just simply trying to use the universal remote as a primary remote, you will need to unlock the global channel lock. Consult the manual for the remote or check online for the remote guide. The Company which makes the remotes is called Universal Electronics and you can find digital copies of their manuals on the Brighthouse Websites.

Just a word of thought. Make sure your remote control is not pointing at the TV. Ive seen this many times. A faulty remote control sending out random signals to the TV due to fluid spillage in the remote. Try keeping the remote well away from TV and see if it still changes channels. If not, check the channel up and down buttons on your TV. Do they feel faulty when compared with volume buttons etc? If so, you might have a channel button on the TV that is half stuck in. Your whole PC can be used as a TV by using the TV Tuner card into it. The monitor alone may not be possible. You can get the TV Tuner card from any electronics store like Best Buy, Frys, any for that matter. And install it in your PC. and connect the Cable TV's cable to it's socket. And after tuning it you have a fulfledged TV going. The problem is that the monitor does not have a tunes ans speakers and things like volume control, channel change buttons etc. For this the TV tuner has all these facilities.

Open the thing up and clean off all the dirt on the volume buttons with a dry rag and clean the remote sensor.  Put in fresh batteries and now give it a try.

I do know about this machine but as a general thing with electronic items :-
With the item turned off press and hold its power on button for 3 to 5 seconds before release or that in combination with either a channel change or volume button, so say power+channel up or power+channel down etc I can only hope this overides the lock out, other than that its say two buttons on a remote etc but this I do not know.

If you forget your password, simultaneously press VOLUME down on the TV/VCR front panel and the 0 number button on the remote for a few seconds. This resets the password and you can enter a new one.

Combo Model 13TVR62, V-Chip Forgotten Password
If you forget your password, press STOP/EJECT on the TV/VCR front panel and MENU on the remote simultaneously. This resets the password, but not the limits you’ve set.
Televisions with Parental Lock Feature


If you forgot your password for this feature, press the following buttons on the remote, one at a time. (Note: You must be in the password entry screen) Press, Mute, Display,Clear and Reset, this unlocks parental controls and you can now re-enter a new password.

Press and hold Menu on the TV AND volume down on the remote for 3 seconds. Nothing will appear on the screen, and the Parental Controls will unlock, and you can re-enter a new password with the LOCK PARENTAL CONTROLS

Channels that have been locked can be viewed only when the PARENTAL CTRL function is set to OFF. This can only be done with the remote control-it can not be changed with the buttons on the front of the TV.

Therefore, after you turn on PARENTAL CTRL, you simply hide the remote control so that your children can not watch the locked channels. The locked-out channels will remain unviewable even if the TV is unplugged or the channels are autoprogrammed again. The only way to view locked channels is to use the supplied remote control to set the PARENTAL CTRL function to OFF.

The PARENTAL CTRL and the CHAN CTRL functions work hand-in-hand. The instructions below will first tell you how to turn parental control on or off with the PARENTAL CTRL function and then how to lock desired channels with the CHAN CTRL function.

2. To lock channels, press the MENU button to select the CHAN CTRL function. Select a channel you want to lock by pressing CHANNEL up or down. Then press +. The CHAN CTRL setting will change from NORMAL to LOCKED when that channel is locked. To return the channel to NORMAL, press the - button. Repeat step 2 for each channel you want to lock. If the PARENTAL CTRL function is set to ON while you are locking out channels, each channel will go blank as you lock it. When the PARENTAL CTRL function is set to ON and a channel which has been locked out is tuned, the TV will display the words PARENTAL CONTROL to let your kids know you have locked it.

If the front panel function buttons don't work, (menu, ch up/dn etc.) but the functions work normal with the remote, enter the "Channel" menu with the remote and turn "Parental Control" off.

In the event you have forgotten your password, perform the following procedure:
Press and hold for 3 seconds the TV button on the remote while pressing the menu button on the TV.
This procedure will turn off the parental lock and erase the previous password .

Another Possibility To Try For Various Models: If TV's in the Parental mode and askes for a password that's forgotten, Press menu on the TV, select Parental Lock #4 on menu, then with the remote press Mute, Display, Clear, and Reset buttons in sequence.

The factory default pass code of 6688 is also the override code, in case the owner forgets their pass code. If that doesn't work, another place in the owners manual says to push Function and Mute on the remote at the same time. Function is the top right button.

Check the voltage to the relay, usually 12v dc. Also check the relay or replace as it may be stuck after the tv warms up. The micro chip for functions could be locking up. Try spraying a little freeze spray directly on chip after tv is locked up see if this unlocks, if it does you have a bad micro chip.

sounds like maybe the remote contol is at fault.Do the front panel buttons work?
