SOURCE: Maytag MZD2766GE side by side, fridge not getting cold.

Your timer for the automatic defrost is defective. Replace it. If you thawed out the back of the freezer, this could be good for 3-7 days and it will freeze up again. I had the same trouble.

SOURCE: Freezer cold- Fridge not. Ice build up on freezer

I really believe your adaptive defrost located inside the fresh food compartment and inside the control panel is defective. It puts your refrigerator on a timely defrost and if defective this problem you listed in your post happens. Yes we may need to also check the defrost heater and defrost thermostat but with my experience with that type of Adaptive Defrost Control is famous for its failure.
ADAPTIVE DEFROST CONTROL Part Number 61005988 You can find it located on two of my websites. Some models like yours came with a Defrost Timer. We will need just look inside the control panel and see for sure. Here is a photo of the Adaptive defrost. If you should need to contact me please send an email or try to answer here. Problem is I don't get notifications when someone comments. [email protected]
Please rate and ask me as much as you like. Thank You, Sea Breeze

SOURCE: maytag fridge water dripping from inside freezer side

This sounds like the evaporator drain may be clogged either in the freexer compartment or at the outlet to the drain pan under the unit. Every defrost cycle the defrost element makes water by melting the ice on the evaporator coils. If the drain is clogged there is no other place for the ice to go. Many times the drain may just have ice buildup in the evaporator drain funnel that can be corrected with a manual defrosting.

To do this manual defrosting all you do is first unplug the unit then remove everything from the freezer compartment. After that place a fan blowing into the freezer section for a little over 2 hours. Please NOTE this will make more of that pesky water mess so be ready to tend to the mess as it presents itself.

After the 2 hour fan session plug the unit back in and reload the freezer compartment with previous content. Monitor for the possibility of the water manifeting itself again.

In addidtion to the above there is a drain pan catch basin in the bottom of the unit near the compressor. They are usually white plastic on Maytag units and not to rugged. Make sure that the drain pan is not loaded with debris. There is about a 1/2 inch diameter opaque plastic line that drains into the catch basin. That is the Evaporator darin tube. Ensure the very end of the tube does not have caked up debris in the very end of the tube. Sometimes this tube cakes up and then the debris dries hard inside the tube near the end. Make sure the tube is free of foreign objects and clean.

After all of the above / cleaning and clearing / manual defrosting it is still making water then most likely the lower panel under the defrosting element / evaporator may have become disconnected allowing defrost cycle water from the melted ice into the freezer compartment vs exit via the drain. To fix the disconnected power metal panel problem the rear freezer panel would have to removed to re-attach / repair the metal panel that guides the water into the evaporator drain.

Thanks for using FixYa.

I have a maytag fridge (freezer on bottom) the fridge is not very cold. freezer has started to get ice near the door opening in the last week.

if you see ice near the door the door muat not be closing all the way or the gasket could be ripped, ice will form where warm and cold air are mixing together, did you remove any of the shelves or baskets in the freezer or in the fridge?i've seen people clean out the fridge and the shelves weren't put back in correctly keeping the door open, check that or food packages that might be hitting the door, when the warm air gets in it usually freezes the air ducts, this is why the fridge is warm, all that happens is the evaporator coil in the freezer gets cold, the evap fan blows the cold air from the freezer into the fridge section and then it returns through other air ducts so if warm air is getting in it will freeze up the air ducts, you can try shutting down the machine or unplug it,remove the food from the freezer and with a hair dryer hit the back inside wall of the freezer, blow the air up into the vent holes in the back wall,if you see water dripping down through the slots you have ice up in there, keep blowing the hot air up into the holes until you don't see any more water dripping,if you can remove the ice maker and remove the back inside wall of the freezer would be better.first check the freezer back wall to see if there's any frost or like snow on it,if so you could have a defrost problem, bad jazz board, this is the computer board that's behind your digital controls in the fridge section, bad defrost thermostat or heater, also do you mean the floor of the freezer has ice on it,you could have a blocked drain in the freezer.write back with more info and let me know what you find and hopefully i can help you better.

The fan is behind panel on inside back freezer wall. It's typically held in place by screws. The sheet of ice in bottom of freezer is the result of a clogged defrost drain which is also accessible once panel is removed.

Our Maytag MTB1976HRW leaks water under the crisper drawer. The drain has stopped up before but if this is the problem how do we solve this without having to call a repair person?

Hello,

Open the freezer compartment...
Locate screws on the back wall (from inside freezer compartment)
unscrew and open the back panel.
You will see a hole at the bottom which is the drain hole.
if you feel ice there... then that's the reason... the clog wont let water drain out and it accumulates at the bottom after a few days it leaks out of the fridge.

I used a hair dryer to unclog that hole and within minutes I could see water on the drying pan located below the fridge (which previously was dry)
Hope this helpout......

My maytag refrig. is 3 years old. model #747908 HS520AS. freezer on bottom-refrig on top. the refrig part is not staying cold. have cleaned under frig and vaccumed back and underneath and it still is not...

Hi,

All the cooling coils for this model are in the freezer section. There is a fan down there behind the back wall on the top. This fan directs air up to the fresh food section.

Check the temperature of the freezer you can do this by inspecting the ice cream, if the ice cream is soft you are above 5 degrees F. If you have a good cold freezer then the problem is with air flow, the evaporator fan that I spoke of could be bad).

If your freezer temperature is not as cold as it should be you may have a defrost problem, look for any signs of frost build up on the back wall of the freezer section, if you see frost you will most likely need to put in a new control.

If the freezer temperature is warmer than normal and you do not have frost you may have a sealed system leak, this will require a technician for sure.

Maytag freezer icing up

If is just one spot in the whole back wall like snow ball (small) ,the unit is leaking refrigerant and the leak has to be fixed and only after that recharged. But if the back inside the freezer gets all ice up and won't defrost by itself the problem is with the defrost system ,timer ,heaters or defrost terminator.

My MAYTAG FREEZER IS RUNNING ALL THE TIME AND FROSTING UP , ALL OF A SUDDEN. FRIDGE PART IS WORKING FINE. IT IS A TOP FREEZER MTB1976HE MODEL.

Sounds like your condenser is icing up and is not blowing enough cold air into the frig compartment to satisfy the thermostat. That is why the compressor with not shut off. You probably have a defrost problem due to a bad defrost heater of defrost thermostat (different from control thermostat) One solution is to shut of the frig to allow ice to melt off and restart to see if it repeats the same problem. Hope this helps

Black Maytag Side by Side MSD2756AEB 7+ yrs old? Won't stay cold...

Your condenser where the heat is removed from the refrigeration system may be plugged with dust. The condenser is more than likely located in back of the refrigerator behind a removable panel. Remove the panel and clean it out. Reinstall the panel after you have cleaned the condenser.

Check the back wall of the freezer for frost buildup. If there is frost buildup on the back wall it indicates that there is a problem in the defrost circuit.

Note: The proper term is "More mature individual" , not old.

Warm fridge, cold freezer

If frost in back wall of freezer it's not defrosting. This will keep cold air from getting to refig,. section. It may require a main board replacement. Or a defrost control replacement.
