I think Ihave a wfw 9200, the door lock light is flashing and cannot be cancelled. There is a f21 fault code flashing. HOW can I open the door ?

Hello, Welcome to FixYa.

Based on your post I understand you have a F21 problem with a Whirlpool Duet washer, that indicates the F21 error means an excessive drain time.

As for the door locked issue, it is a by-product of the F21 error. Make sure you get the water out before attempting to open the door manually or it could be messy.

To Manually unlock the door lock system:

1. Unplug the power cord from the outlet.

2. Remove the lower toe panel.

3. Reach up along the inside of the front panel and locate the bottom of the door latch assembly.

4. Located on the bottom of the door latch assembly is a tear-drop shaped tab.

5. Gently pull the tab down about ¼" or until a click is heard.
6. The door may now be opened.

If you follow the link to my solution to this error you should be fixed up in no time.

Found standing water in the tub when about to

The problem is usually caused by either a water inlet valve leaking by, or a pressure switch malfunction. The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3753262-front_load_washer_fills_when_not_in_use

Included are tips on how to diagnose the problem and parts sources, if required.

The odor problem is a different story. Front loaders are notorious for musty odors, mold and mildew. A little diligence can help minmize potential problems and keepthem from coming back. The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3608512-getting_rid_front_loader_mildew_odor

Read through the link provided. In many cases, the problem is attributed to debris lodged in the drain pump reservoir, or some things the consumer should (or should not) be doing (e.g. using improper detergent or not leaving the door open when not in use). I personally own one of these washers and have never had an odor problem in the 8 years I've owned by following this regiment. It DOES work.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

Mildew odour from Whirlpool Duet washer.

I've had this problem a couple of times over the years I've had this washer. What caused the odour in my machine was one (or more) of my kids' socks getting stuck in the machine. With the door open, gently reach in and bend the grey rubber door seal back and feel for clothes that have slipped between the drum and the rubber. If there's nothing there and it has been smelling bad for a while, then it's likely that the socks have been sucked into the drain. To clear this without paying a $150 service charge (I did that the first time and watched him fix it in 10 minutes), you'll need to remove the bottom front plate of the washer (there are only three or four Torx -or star head- screws holding it on). Once that plate is off, you'll see a white plastic knob that is the cap of the drain trap. Unscrew the cap and a couple of cups of water will leak out so shove a couple of towels under it beforehand. You should find some long-lost now-rotting socks. The last time I had to do this, I found FOUR socks in there. This also contributes to the 'suds' error message as it prevents proper drainage. I've only had this problem with kids' socks, everything else is too big to get stuck, I guess. Maybe try a laundry bag for the smaller stuff.

Smell, mold , and mildew

Do you always leave the washer open? We've never had this problem but they told us to always leave the door open slightly whenever it's not running.
