The Main board likely took a surge. It would need to be replaced. It is not a repairable Board. Best thing to do is to contact Sharp at 1800BESHARP and see if they can get a Sharp Servicer to help you.
Hope this helps,

If your Tv has this many HDMI ports it will have a menu to access each one separate. Go to your Tv's settings menu and look for your HDMI ports to use.

My problem is when I connect my laptop Sony Vaio (model: VPCEB18FD) at my TV Sharp AQUOS (Model: LC-42D64U) via HDMI cable (v 2.0), I don't have sound...... Thanks!

On the Vaio:
right click volume on system tray and select playback devices
select hdmi/ sdip as default and then in the properties deselect dolby

If you don't have those options you may need new drivers installed on your Vaio. Do you have windows xp? The driver can be found here: support.vaio.sony.co.uk/downloads/info/info.asp?site=voe_en_GB_cons&url=Vaio/Original/AR2_Drivers.zip&ip=RAID_AR21.htm

If you have vista the driver can be found here:
support.vaio.sony.ie/downloads/updates/updates.asp?site=voe_en_IE_cons&c=0&s=VGN-AR&m=2418&os=7&osl=1

On the television make sure you are on the right input. Press menu--setup--hdmi setup--audio select--digital

Hope this helps

Is it possible to replace a broken lcd screen on the Sharp LC-42D64U or is it just toast?

Sorry to say, it's pretty much toast. The screen is most of the cost of an LCD TV, so if it gets physically damaged you're better off replacing the set.

Stereo/Mono Fluctuation Screen Display Problem

I had the same problem.

All I did was unplug the standard cable wire from my tv and used RCA cables to connect my TV to my digital cable box the the Input 1 jack in the back. It also increased the video quality.

My tv shuts off by its self then wont restart until it is unpluged for a while then it shuts off again.

these sets are notorious for bad inverter boards and bad video processor boards.Sharp is well aware of the problem, and will fix the units if you push the issue.
