Look in the book for the scanner lock. It will still be locked for transport.

Scanner carriage jammed #3 and #6 does nothing.

Check if you haven't moved the scanner lock lever accidentally - find the lock lever (used to immobilize the carriage in transport) and move it to locked position, then to unlocked, and power up your unit. Chances are that the carriage was not dislocated when trying to move while locked, and will start to operate.
If it's not that, it may be a number of things, like broken belt, encoder strip (if any), carriage motor fault - things you won't be able to repair yourself.

Hp officejet d145 carriage error & scanner failure

Re carriage error - suggest cleaning the encoder strip. this is the plastic strip running parallel to the drive belt but about 1 inch above it. They frequently become covered with ink spray and so are impossble to read by the carriage position detector.

Beware.

Only use cold water and be very gentle. also make sure you dry the strip thoroughly before switching the machine back on.

Re scanner problem 2 possibilities.
(1) make sure printer power cable is connected directly into wall socket not through an extension cable. This can reduce the voltage getting through to the scanner lamp.

(2) if that don,t work then I suggest you take the scanner apart and clean the reference strip. this is a white bar on the scanner glass which tells the machine what the light level is. This can be a bit tricky so if you've never done it before consult someone who has or get back in touch with me. HP don't want you to do this but it sometimes works.

Need to unlock "carriage lock"

Hi caddillacdzn,

Well the carriage lock is indeed at the bottom of a scanner usually. Now personally I don't have this model of HP scanner but I have something similar to that, and this procedure may work for you. Please check this procedure out from the HP website and see if this will work for you:

Hope this helps!

Peace! :)

Hp office jet 6110 all in one

THE Office Jet 6110xi has the problem is the scanner carriage having a problem when it looses power. The carriage does not "see" the signal it needs to indicate to the scanner carriage has reached the end of the scan deck -- I open the scanner top (remove screws, lift ONLY several inches leaving the front "clips" or "clamps" connected so the rear part of the top deck lifts up).

I have wiped the glass and the scanner carriage.

THE BEST THING THAT SEEMS TO WORK IS TO MAKE SURE THE THIN PLASTIC INSERT BETWEEN THE GLASS AND THE PLASTIC DECK --- WHICH IS NOT SEEM FROM THE TOP SCANNING DECK BUT ONLY FROM THE UNDERSIDE WHILE HOLDING UP THE DECK --- IS PROPERLY SEATED SO THE SCANNER CARRIAGE "SEES" IT.

ALSO HAVING WORKED IS SOME COMPRESSED AIR BLOWING IN THE SCANNER CARRIAGE AREA. I PRESUME SO DUST GETS IN THERE AND THE AIR REMOVES IT.

This happens almost every time the scanner/printer looses power, so I usually try to avoid unplugging it or shutting it off!!!

Finally, do not give up. This can be fixed. Sometimes it took 2 minutes, sometimes it took an hour of cleaning, wiping, blowing air into it.....

2141 Block carrier

Hi Silvestre,

So the carriage is locked in your scanner, usually the carriage lock on scanners is mechanical so you should try checking the bottom of the scanner and there is usually a switch there. I personally don't have this HP model scanner, but I have something similar, so this may help you in finding out where to unlock it the bottom. Follow this link:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&docname=c00041061&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN#

Make sure to turn off the scanner and unplug it from the outlet when you move the carriage lock. You can try to move the switch a couple of times, and plug it back and see if after doing that you are now able to use the scanner.

Otherwise you may have to check with your scanner manual for further help, or call up HP Technical Support, since it's possible that it maybe a mechanical problem with the scanner.

Hope this helps!

Peace! :)
