I was told by PC world that they can recover the data but everything is compromised and I can't see the files,I have there 8 years worth of pictures that are not saved anywhere else.please can you help?
Take the drive out of the case and try this cable:

If the internal drive is physically damaged (if it wont power on or spin) then you will need to use a data recovery service that can pull the drive apart and recover the data directly from the platters. Note: These services are expensive.
